Roller coasters going at ninety kilometres per hour. Crowds of people ranging from the smallest child to the tallest adult. Petting areas for manta rays and fish that eat the dead skin right off your hands. The oh-so exciting SeaWorld. It is surprising that such a bright and happy place could be so boring. I recall entering with practically bursting from the excitement, but leaving with disappointment heavy in my heart.

I recall walking through the whole park, trying to find something interesting to me. At the start, I had spent the car ride to SeaWorld searching up the rides, finding many that interested me, which had made me excited. However, when I arrived, every attraction I had wanted to go to was closed. The remaining roller coasters were too fast, and there was only one other ride that was not for children. SeaWorld was disappointing as despite the posters promising fun for people of all ages, they only had rides for the true thrill seekers and young children under the age of twelve, with a singular ride that was in between. I quickly got bored of that ride and was left walking around with nothing to do. I remember that the only time I actually felt the extreme happiness and joy SeaWorld claimed they could give me was when I went to the gift shop and found a giant stuffed toy that my parents let me buy. My trip to SeaWorld was disappointing as it did not have attractions that accommodated everyone, only having terrifyingly speedy roller coasters and rides for young children that were so slow I could fall asleep mid-ride.

Words are from the lips, actions are from the heart. We can claim things so easily with just a few words, but if our actions fail to back them up, the words are as good as meaningless. Through a meaningful experience, I've truly grasped what ‘actions speak louder than words’ really meant. As I recall this experience over and over again, it only reminds me to act on my words, and sometimes, a person's actions will tell you everything you need to know about them.

“I’ll complete my part next week, I promise!” She pleaded. I recall the time in primary school, as I was working on a group project with my classmates. Fast forward to when the teachers were choosing the groups, I was extremely excited to be paired with my friends. However, there was someone in our group who we were not acquainted with. “Hello, my name is Jessica.” She introduced herself. Carrying a smile, I introduced myself as well. We started to split roles after school and delegate tasks. “Sorry, I need to go now.” Jessica excused herself. We looked at each other with a confused expression on our faces, but continued doing our tasks. During the time we were planning our project, Jessica kept coming up with a zillion excuses and left before we were done discussing. Of course, her part was incomplete as well. Weeks went by in a flash and soon it was time for us to submit our project in a week. Sick of all the empty promises, I confronted her in a state of anger. “Hey, could you please do your part? If you refuse I’ll be reporting you to the teacher.” I said. My face was void of any sympathy. The serious tone of my voice paired with my clench fists revealed my anger. Jessica’s face turned dark as it twisted into a state of panic. She bit her lip and she pleaded to us to give her another week to finish. Reluctantly, I compiled. Jessica no longer came up with any excuses, her mind always focused on the task in front of her. It seemed that my words were a wake up call for her as she started diligently participating in discussions. Before this experience, I thought that receiving someone’s trust took just a few words of reassurance, but I soon realised that actions really reveal someone’s true colours. I’m sure that from this experience, Jessica had also learnt the valuable lesson of “actions speak louder than words”. People often bark more than they can chew, but taking action is more important than claims. Characterize people by their actions and you will never be fooled by their words.
