But all those benefits provided from the area cannot be obtained if we do not have a strong and evident basis of regulations and supervisions within the area. 

In fact, this area will instead become a threat to nations in indo-pacific in maintaining its security and preventing any transnational crimes.

First of all, I would like to express the problems faced by these areas itself in maintaining maritime security

As cited from a journal publication regarding MARITIME SECURITY IN INDO-PACIFIC: ISSUES, CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS,  the Pacific Ocean has several times been faced with maritime disputes and thus have become a complex problem in the maritime security of the Indo-Pacific. For example, with China's maritime expansion mainly the nine dash line claim over south china sea, had sparked disputes over southeast asian nations including philippines, vietnam, malaysia, and indonesia. Not only that, there are also other non-traditional maritime problems such as sea piracy, Illegal Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing still becoming a major threat in the region. Moreover, a lack of counter measurement by the coast guards or ports security facility had led to ineffective surveillance towards drug and human trafficking. 

Moving on to the indian ocean, at the heart of this region is located India. It has shared borders with seven countries but different from the Pacific Ocean, the maritime boundaries has settled more. But the most concerning problem is about China’s presence which being currently the focus of discussion in Indian Ocean maritime security. India worries over the number of Chinese warships and even the nuclear-capable submarines roaming in the Indian Ocean. Although Chinese officials stated that its naval activities are to protect the shipping lines from piracy and such threats, however there are speculations saying China is asserting maritime dominance across Asia

India through the Act East policy is also increasing maritime control in Indian Ocean and even seeking engagement in South China Sea. But this needs to be strengthen even more to prevent any dominance from foreign country who doesn’t have the rights towards the area.

A free and open Indo-Pacific has seemed to agree on common strategic maritime problems in Indo-pacific. But at the same time, we need to find the balance of working closely with the Chinese military while maintaining the international maritime order, as China on the other hand has also become a great partner towards maritime trade and investment. And of course to maintain security, the interaction would prevent any armed conflicts.
