I just found this one on Schubert's Erlking! It's probably a bit too creepy for my students, but I enjoyed it quite a bit! It's not specifically related to Halloween, but it definitely fits the mood. :)

Henry Cowell's prepared piano piece "The Banshee" is great listening for older kids around this time of year. I challenge the kids to figure out what instrument they hear; they usually guess an instrument with strings, but they have a hard time figuring out that it's a piano being played from the inside.

I love In the Hall of Mountain King - I have a listening map that we use, a game for the younger grades to play, and simple movements from John Jacobson that get progressively more difficult throughout the song. It's a great way to talk about slow/fast and soft/loud. I usually always start by telling the story of Peer Gynt and I have fun with it each year!

We've been doing silent stretches to Toccata in Dm with a ppt picture of Bach and a pipe organ and harpsichord, discussing what they know about a pipe organs and watching a short video of the biggest one in the world located in Macy's (formally Wanamakers ) followed by Monster Mash Freeze Dance and singing Skin and Bones and The Ghost of John. Kinder and 1st acting out Five Little Pumpkins and Pumpkin, Pumpkin and Miss White!

Thinking way ahead, I love this video from the Piano Guys. The kids are always amazed that the inside of the piano can be played. (And it's not creepy like The Banshee!)
