Is it usual to use cement to plug holes in trees? I've never heard of that before.

update: i looked it up and this is what I found:
 "Filling the hole does not reduce decay or make the tree more structurally sound. In the past, arborists would patch holes in trees with concrete or cement. The thought was the cement would make the tree stronger. In reality, it weakened the tree as the cement was unable to flex with it."

Scout really doesn't like school. "Second grade was worse that the first- only worse." She thinks school doesn't have a point because she could learn all of the stuff at home. She trusts Jem though, when he says that school gets better when you get older, and that you don't really learn anything important until the 6th grade.

The picture on the front cover on the purple book is of some twine and a pocket watch which are the same things that Jem and Scout found in the tree hole. I wonder if they have any more significance or if it will come up later in the book.

I have a feeling that Boo Radley sewed Jem's pants and that he was watching them the whole time. This chapter kind of reminds me of Sandlot because they where all afraid of the blind man and he turned out to be a very nice guy.

It seems like part of the reason scout is so smart is because her dad and brother seem to teach her a lot. Her dad said “Delete the adjectives and you would have the facts” I had no Idea what adjectives were when I was her age. And Jen taught her a lot about Egyptians and it seems she takes it in well.
