1940´s-50´s-Early computers

Computers were mainly used for mathematical calculations. They were mainly used by goverment facilities and university.

1950´s and 1960’s – Behavioristic CALL

Computers were used to provide repetitive lessons, assuming the role as teacher and gave students positive and negative feedback in response to their respective answers.

1970’s and 1980’s – Communicative CALL

Language teaching evolved with computers, shifting from "drill and practice" to authentic communication.Some computer games were developed to teach language and students were able to make choices and interact with the computer in a way that gave the student more control.

The late 1970´s

The PC was introduced in the late 1970’s. Computers were used to stimulate writing, discussions and critical thinking and include spelling and grammar checkers, desk top publishing programs and presentation software.

1990’s – Integrative CALL
