         <description><![CDATA[<p>On August 10, 2020, a powerful derecho (a widespread, fast-moving windstorm associated with severe thunderstorms) swept across the Midwest. The storm produced wind gusts exceeding 100 mph (160 km/h), equivalent to a Category 2 hurricane. It caused severe damage to homes, infrastructure, and millions of acres of crops, particularly in Iowa.</p><p><strong>Impact</strong>: Power outages affected millions, and more than 43% of Iowa’s corn and soybean crops were damaged.</p>]]></description>
