Advantages of word walls are that they give students a visual of what the words they are practicing look like.

Disadvantages of word walls are that they may be words that a student doesn't understand, and may be confusing if they are practicing the spelling of the wrong word.

Advantages of word sorts are that they help children focus on conceptual and phonological features of words and identify recurring patterns.

Disadvantages of word sorts are that a student may be uncertain of the meaning of a word, therefore they might incorrectly sort the word.

To accommodate ELL, I will use pictures found on the word wall when using word sorts. Advantages of running records are that they calculate the percentage of words the child reads correctly and then analyze the miscues, as well as it helps to find words that a child may mispronounce, and help them to correct it.

Disadvantages of running records are that they may discourage a student if they are to mess up when reading to their teacher.

To accommodate for ELL, I will observe the student allowing them to use a translator if needed.
