         <title>Book Talks</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Book talks are brief teasers that teachers give to introduce books and interest children in reading them. <br><br><strong>Advantages</strong> of book talks are that they help students develop a farther understanding of their book, while discussing their opinions with others.<br><br><strong>Disadvantages </strong>of book talks are that some students may not participate, allowing others to do more work.<br><br><strong>To accommodate for ELL, I will have them introduce the book to the best of their ability, allowing them to use a translator when discussing their book.</strong></div>]]></description>

         <title>Reading Logs</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Reading logs are journals in which children write their reactions to books they're reading or listening to the teacher read aloud.<br><br><strong>Advantages</strong> of reading logs are that they help children clarify misunderstandings, explore ideas, and deepen their comprehension.<br><br><strong>Disadvantages</strong> of reading logs are that they may discourage a student, and cause them to lack motivation if they aren't reaching their goals. <br><br><strong>To accommodate for ELL, I will allow them to choose a book at their level, whether it is multiple grade levels under the one they are currently in or not. </strong></div>]]></description>

         <title>Word Walls</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Word walls are collections of words posted in the classroom that children use for word study activities and refer to when they're writing.<br><br><strong>Advantages</strong> of word walls are that they give students a visual of what the words they are practicing look like.<br><br><strong>Disadvantages</strong> of word walls are that they may be words that a student doesn't understand, and may be confusing if they are practicing the spelling of the wrong word. <br><br><strong>To accommodate for ELL, I will have pictures next to the words on the word wall so that the ELL's can have a visual as to what each word is as well as it's meaning.  I will include detailed pictures to enhance their understanding. </strong></div>]]></description>

         <title>Word Sorts</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Word sorts  are used to examine and categorize words according to their meanings, phoneme-grapheme correspondences, or spelling patterns. <br><br><strong>Advantages</strong> of word sorts are that they help children focus on conceptual and phonological features of words and identify recurring patterns.<br><br><strong>Disadvantages</strong> of word sorts are that a student may be uncertain of the meaning of a word, therefore they might incorrectly sort the word.<br><br><strong>To accommodate ELL, I will use pictures found on the word wall when using word sorts. This way, the ELL's are familiar with these words and pictures and can determine which word belongs to the correct picture. </strong></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Shared reading is when teachers use it to read authentic literature with children who can't read those books independently. <br><br><strong>Advantages </strong>of shared reading is that it  encourage students to make predictions, and to chime in on reading repeated words and phrases.<br><br><strong>Disadvantages</strong> of shared reading is that students may be uninterested when participating in shared reading, and they may not understand the material.<br><br><strong>To accommodate ELL, I will read books aloud to the class, with translations provided if needed.  I will choose a book with many pictures provided so context clues can be used.</strong></div>]]></description>

         <title>Running Records</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Running records allow teachers to observe individual children as they read aloud and record information to analyze their reading fluency.<br><br><strong>Advantages</strong> of running records are that they calculate the percentage of words the child reads correctly and then analyze the miscues, as well as it helps to find words that a child may mispronounce, and help them to correct it.<br><br><strong>Disadvantages</strong> of running records are that they may discourage a student if they are to mess up when reading to their teacher. <br><br><strong>To accommodate for ELL, I will observe the student allowing them to use a translator if needed.<br></strong><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Think-Alouds are a procedure to teacher children how to direct and monitor their thinking during  reading.<br><br><strong>Advantages</strong> of think-alouds are that they make children's thinking explicit, and teachers demonstrate what capable readers do implicitly.<br><br><strong>Disadvantages</strong> of think-alouds are that some students aren't willing to share, and they are nervous.<br><br><strong>To accommodate for ELL, I will have the students explain their thoughts to me, using pictures, drawings, and translations if needed.</strong></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Story retelling is when teachers use story retelling to monitor children's comprehension.<br><br><strong>Advantages</strong> of story retelling is that it shows a student's understanding of summarizing, as well as comprehension skills.<br><br><strong>Disadvantages </strong>of story retelling is that it may confuse students with the story and how they interpret it. <br><br><strong>To accommodate for ELL, I will ask for a simple summary of the story, and will allow the student to use a translator or draw a picture for their summary if they are unsure how to pronounce words. </strong></div>]]></description>
