The girls are only in fourth grade too. In reality I don't think this is how fourth graders really act to things. In the story, Daphne might have heart Arnetta call them "niggers". But we think that was only to start trouble between both of the groups. Arnetta is the only one who suspects the white girls of the "racial slur". The black girls were telling troop 909 that they were going to tell on them. But the white girls kept telling them that they would never use "bad words" and that's when the story twists when the African American girls realize the White girl’s troop consists of "delayed learners" with "special needs". The black girls start to believe that they're just making this act up so that they wont get in trouble but the reality is that they really had special needs. The troop leaders later got involved in the scenario and were trying to solve the problems between both groups. Mrs. Margolin is the troop leader. she tells the black girls "oh.
