In 1848 the idea of Romanticism failed so Italy goes to get unification called realism. Italy and their unification movement and the idea of realpolitik is really the descendent of the Machiavellian ideas. Count Cavour made like a three-step plan for unifying Italy. Victor Emmanuel I was declared the king of Italy once the south and the north joined together.

The Proclamation Moncalieri contrasted his polices favorably, and the liberals installed a new cabinet under Massimo d'Azeglio .

Germany is a lot like Italy when they unify. Otto Von Bismarck the embodiment of realpolitik, began on a mission to improve the country, solidify power of his king Wilhelm I, and to improve the military. He wanted Austria to be out so he made non interfering agreements with territories to get them on his side. Wilhelm was crowned the king of the German empire in the very symbol of French power, the Palace of Versailles.
