One child placed a chosen number of marbles inside an opaque container, while their partner shook it and carefully listened to the sound. Based on what they heard, the guessing child selected the number card they thought matched the number of marbles inside.

The game encouraged children to practise number recognition and estimation, and also helped them connect auditory clues with numerical concepts. By taking turns as the “hider” and the “guesser,” children developed listening skills, problem-solving strategies, and cooperative play.

I also introduced the song ‘how do we say hello’ to the children where they are encouraged to do a few movements like giving high five, fist bumps and hugs as a way to say hello to their friend.

2) During transitions, I will always sing songs like ‘walking, walking’ by super simple song when walking along the corridor or outside the school to emphasise the different movements that the children can make like hopping, tip toe, spinning and jumping.

3) In between routines and transitions, I also replaced the word ‘wait’ by getting the children to move a certain way. For example, while transiting to diaper changing time from large group time, I will tell the children ‘walk to the door’, ‘squat down and count to 10’. By getting the children to do these different movements, it keeps the children engaged and hence, minimising behavioural issues during transitions.
