Whether your child is learning onsite at school, learning remotely at home, or a hybrid model, starting the school year off on a good note can influence children’s attitude, confidence and performance both socially and academically. The degree of adjustment depends on the child, but parents can help their children (and the rest of the family) manage the increased pace of life by planning ahead, being realistic, and implementing a few back-to-school habits.

For children attending school in-person, this school year will look and feel much different than in the past. Even children who are eager to return to class will need to adjust to the greater levels of activity, structure, and, for some, pressures associated with school life. Not to mention the new safety protocols, classroom changes, meal time adjustments and limitations during recess. Talking to your children ahead of time about these changes will make a big difference in their ability to adjust.

✔Students will wait outside of their entrance on an “Orange T” - 6-foot physical distancing
✔ Drivers must remain inside their cars when dropping off students

✔ Either before arriving at Tillicum or while waiting to enter the school building, students will complete their Daily Health Check attestation 

✔Upon entering the building, all students will have their temperature taken

✔ Students will walk directly to their first class of the day after entering the school building

Parent/family members should remain in their vehicles at all times during pick-up & drop off. 

✔ Students are provided a sanitizing wipe as they enter. 

✔   Students will use this sanitizing wipe to disinfect their workspace. 

✔  Students are also provided a sanitizing wipe at the end of the class to again disinfect their workspace. 

✔  This process is repeated each class period. 

✔ Teachers and students do not need to use gloves to use sanitizing wipes.

1.      We have provided Purell Surface Sanitizer Wipes in all classrooms. They are in a red-topped, square-sided plastic container. 

2.      To sanitize a surface or object, pull a sanitizing wipe out of the container, and wipe down the surface.  The surface needs to look wet for 30 seconds – this is how long it takes the alcohol in the sanitizer to kill viruses on the surface. 

3.      When you run low on wipes, let the custodian know – they have replacement wipes and alcohol solutions to refill your container. 

4.      Please make sure you keep the container lid and center opening tightly shut so the alcohol solution does not evaporate! 

5.      Custodial staff will be sanitizing frequently touched surfaces and bathrooms with district-approved sanitizers which are virucidal (kills viruses) 

Can we use sanitizing wipes on electronics? 

Student Assigned Restrooms: Each classroom is assigned a restroom to be used each period.  Students are expected to walk directly to the restroom and back to class.  Students will wait outside the restroom if/when the restroom has reached capacity. (see signs) GSA’s and office support staff will be monitoring hallways and restrooms during class periods while students are on campus to ensure compliance.  Each classroom will receive ‘CLEAN’ and ‘USED’ cups & pens for students to use with the Restroom log.  Each classroom teacher will need to designate a student (or do it themselves) to sanitize pens at the end of each period after use.

Students will be mindful of physical distancing, striving to stay approximately 6 feet away from peers while navigating hallways by spacing themselves accordingly during traffic flow and complying with one-way hallway directional lanes.

Classroom teachers will walk their final class of the day directly to their emergency exit (closet exterior exit) and see that all students physically leave the building.  Office/non-classroom staff will be positioned strategically along the exterior of the school to support physical distancing and student flow.  Students are expected to comply with the following dismissal actions: 

Parent Pick-Up: After leaving the building, walk directly to the pick-up circle and wait on an Orange T (physical distancing mark) for parent pick-up 

Walkers: After leaving the building, immediately leave TMS campus and walk directly home.  Students are not permitted to walk to PLE.  Students must leave school and head directly to their residence. 

Bus Riders: After leaving the building, walk directly to the bus loading zone and wait on an Orange T (physical distancing mark) to load the school bus. 

Contact tracing involves finding out who was within 6 feet of the person who has COVID-19 for more than 15 minutes. School nurses and other district staff have been trained in contact tracing. Contact Tracing Questions for Middle/High School Students

While this year’s transition back to school is different, we can help children feel optimistic by listening to and validating their worries, teaching them coping strategies, reviewing safety protocols, and supporting them when they find things difficult. Ultimately, our kids need us to lead the way for a successful back-to-school transition and to develop the lifelong skills they need for navigating challenges. Here are a few additional resources to help support you during this transition.

We will have up to 800 doses of Pfizer vaccine available for students 12 years old and up.

There will be 250 doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccine, available for students 18 years old and up (who are interested).
