In our Foley workshop we had to take the office scene from the movie Matrix and try and try and re-do the audio with our own creations. There were many different sounds to do such as a phone ringing, footsteps and ripping paper etc. To make these noises we ripped paper, got an alarm on one of our phones and recorded the footsteps of someone walking to try and make it with the film and make it look as realistic as possible.

Some of the problems when doing these recordings was that there was background sounds, this caused us to have unwanted noises in the background of our video. Another problem was that we could not think of certain objects to use when figuring out how to make the perfect sound that we was looking for in the scene, therefore the time was being wasted as we were thinking.

Wiplash

The battle for power and respect between the student and teacher is clear in the final scene of the film 'whiplash'. The music indicates the boy's career in a way as, despite the fact the teacher had set him up, it starts off bad and out of place - which messes up the whole piece. But after realising he shouldn't give up he manages to redeem and prove himself much like his career and personality it shows that he's so passionate about this that although he was so close to giving up, he managed to show everyone that he could do it. When he comes back the music grows stronger which shows his determination and shows him mentally getting stronger as well.

Comparing film analysis'

the first Podcast, reviewing the film 'Drive', was longer, but much more descriptive and involved more pictures which gave us a good visual idea of what the man is talking about to help us understand. This is something that the other podcast (reviewing the film 'whiplash) lacked as all we saw in the video was him talking. The man done a good job at analysing the films as he is going in depth when describing the scenes and he tries to find secret meaning within the films which is something that I could use in order to improve my analysing.

In this scene in the film ‘The Lion King’, the music in the background represents the dramatic events as it very tense and the violins gave quite a depressing effect, which indicates that a traumatic event is going to occur. The speed of the music increases as the stampede is happening which could be seen as a metaphor as to how fast they are running. Overall, not only does the music indicate panic, it also has a heroic feeling which suits the scene of the father rescuing his son – risking his own life in the process.
