This poem was more meaningful to me because my recent obsession has become music and some of the names, she lists I listen to as well. J. Cole, Kanye West, and Drake are some artists that I also listen to too. At the last line of the poem, she says “And even at that young age I learned music can become a bridge between you and a total stranger.” which I couldn’t agree more with. I show my friends music, I pay attention to what music other people are listening to, I can gauge a person's personality by the music they listen to. My current favorite artists consist of Kanye, PB Carti, Travis Scott, Kambe X, Tyler the Creator, Tame Impala, Big Baby Gucci, and many others. She is also being a bit rebellious because she knows her parents are very strict. She's becoming a new person in this sense. She's coming to a realization that she maybe keep a secret from her parents about a boy that she likes. The reason I relate to this poem the most is because my entire life I have always been "okay" because its not common for a guy to share his feelings and sometimes we feel like we need to keep them down to be strong. I always have so much to say but I can never say it in the moment. I really like this poem because of the message and importance of it too. This poem is my favorite because it talks about the Dads character who has mostly been disregarded by the story to this point. The poem does a really good job of illustrating how the Dad was before this, and how he has changed by having children. I was surprised when I read that he was a womanizer and did all of these things, about how he couldn't get women pregnant with the clever metaphor "so he tossed his seeds to the wind, not caring where they land." In this poem, she talks about what she feels like when she watches a video on a poet. The poet talking about struggles about being black, a woman, and about beauty standards. The video makes her feel like the poet is there right in front of her. She expresses feeling tense such as "I don't breathe for the entire three minutes" and "instead of raising hand I press it against my heart and will the chills on my arms to smooth out". I relate to this because I feel the same exact way whenever I read or watch a poem, or just any text that talks about these kind of topics. This poem was very relatable to me because it was explaining how you can have a father that is present but really isn't there. This was very meaning full because in my family i would go to church with my family and in the mass we would be the only incomplete family because my father wouldn't be present with us at mass. To me this poem really made me think that I'm not the only one because its difficult knowing that multiple people go though similar things you do or even worse. There is one verse in particular that caught my eye which was "you can have a father who, if people asked you had to say lived with you you have to say is around." that was basically explaining a situation my brothers and i would go though. Asylum is where Xiomara is talking about her first introduction to the world of music, and how she fell in love with many different artists, as well as using music as an escape. "maybe this is why Papi stopped listening to music, because it can make your body want to rebel. To speak up." In my experience, music brings life and feeling into everything, and depending on the music, its hard not to move to the rhythm the song carries. I think the reason this one felt so relatable is because, one, I love music so much. Not in a sense of I would like to make it, but it makes me feel more whole, and I feel like it adds to life, and gives it more color. In my life music has been a huge part of many of my relationships, whether its me and my dad sharing and introducing each other to new songs, or im dancing around with my best friend to music, or I’m having a quiet moment to myself with chill music in the back. I just feel like this poem really highlights the importance and bridge that music can bring to relationships and everyone’s lives.

I feel deeply about this poem. I know the situation of women is improving now, but still so many men don't care about women's feelings at all, they will openly display their desire for women even though the woman tells them that is not comfortable for her.  In fact this is called "男凝” in Chinese, which means some men always impose their thoughts and opinions on women and maintain stereotypes about women. My favorite sentences in this poem is " how it is that her looks stop men in their tracks,  why they still keep on coming.” Because it's true, no matter what women say, yes or no, there are always people who will misinterpret what they mean and think. We continuously support each other throughout our journeys, and have a bond like no other. She sees a different side in me, the same way Twin sees a different side in Xiomara. This poem highlights the bond between siblings, something I will always truly appreciate.

He's lived with his kids and does pretty much similar things to what Xiomara's dad does. But he never does more than that. He isn't involved much in what his kids do and what the kids are now. Like in a car ride the car would be silent since they genuinely don't know anything about each others life. I relate to it a lot because I feel like I always was a quiet kid until around 2015 I got my first phone and was stuck on it for as long as I remember but I started listening to more music and I feel like it taught me to be a  more outgoing person and think for yourself, to this day I'm still a bit quiet. but music for everyone is for sure a escape from reality and when u find the right music for you life may feel better for you.

This poem talked about Xiomara and Twin are different from each other, but they shared everything like living in the same room. When she talked about the goldfish only develop as big as the tank they are put into, I feel connected to it, because when I get my own room, I got more opportunity to decorate it like how it would express my personality.
