College is a big step for everyone but some drop out in college due to personal reasons. Regardless of how stories of college dropouts who turned into billionaires may ignite the desire of the person to take this route, I still advise that college is the safer choice.

In the early stages of my child’s development; I will create an environment where my child's passion can flourish. However, dropping out of college without reaching a degree is like once a person is gone, it is when you realize that person is important to you.

Assuming that they would drop out of college to pursue their passion, money will be critical. But without a college degree nor the skills, one can learn in college, finding good-paying jobs will be exhausting.

College, on the other hand, is costly. But there is comfort in knowing that if they study hard and perform well, they will graduate with a wide range of skills, experiences, and a diploma. Once they acquire a good-paying job, they can use the money or fund to support what they love. In conclusion, college is a long-term investment.

For me, passion can wait but do not sacrifice it for the sake of your studies. It can work alongside college if you manage it. Of course, you can’t skip or abandon college and ignore its significance in your future. We live in a world where money is everything; you must take college seriously to secure your future.

If I were to be in the position of a parent that was asked that question, I would let my child decide what they wanted to do with their college life. If I were to pick a side though, I would pick the non-college path because I know the stress and expectations that come with college life. If my son/daughter believes in their passion, as their parent I should support them all the way because that is what a good parent should do. And if it does go wrong and my son/daughter becomes jobless, I would push them to try again until they find a job that is right for them and that they enjoy working at.

I believe that we should let our children discover their passion on their own as much as possible. However, if I were to pick one side of the spectrum, I would choose to urge him to go through college and not drop out as I firmly believe that completing college will open up more opportunities for my child once he goes on to do his own thing such as looking for a good job.

Should my child choose to drop out of college, I, as a parent, will try and talk him out as to why he chose that path as I was not raised to have that kind of mentality. Despite that, I will still continue to support him in his future endeavors for as long as it is his passion and I know that whatever he is doing by then will lead him to a good life in the future.

As a concerned parent, I certainly would encourage my son/daughter to reasonably pursue their studies. We all are aware that there are some people like Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, and Steve Jobs who made big names and became insanely successful even without a college degree. Unfortunately, that does not apply to most of us. If we look back at previous generations, they have already showcased that being a college graduate or even a licensed professional will earn you a steady paycheck which in theory will lead you to success. Additionally, we must put into consideration that the probability of an average person using passion alone to be successful is very low. Furthermore, we must think about what employers are looking for. They would rather look into your educational background, achievements, and work experiences than your passion. In my opinion, being a college graduate is more beneficial than just having passion alone because even if you change your mind in the future and decide to switch paths after college, you still have the opportunity to secure a job for firms or apply for jobs that are related to your course which you can use to save capital to pursue what you truly desire. Another thing to consider is the current state of the country. The Philippines is considered a third world country meaning we residents face high poverty rates, economic instability, lack of basic human needs, low capital, high rates of unemployment, and low educational development which is why certain opportunities are limited in comparison to those in other countries making it not ideal to solely follow one’s passion. Following one’s passion is a gamble, especially for someone with little to no experience of the outside world which is why only a few people out of the seven billion people on earth are lucky enough to make their passion into their career. Some would say encouraging someone not to pursue his/her child’s desires/passion would abridge his/her child’s freedom. However, this may not be the case as they could still incorporate and even enhance their passion while continuing to pursue their studies. As a parent, it is preferable to be practical and to be safe than to be sorry.

As a parent, I would have to emphasize the necessity of pursuing a collegiate education for my children. Colleges provide students with numerous benefits such as facilitating personal development, guidance towards a specific discipline/course, and the emphasis on teamwork and communication among peers. Although there are people who have become successful without obtaining a collegiate degree, there are also those who dwindle and struggle instead.

According to Pew Research Center, individuals without a degree are three times more likely to be living in poverty. Despite college success not being a clear indicator of success, those who partake in it are more likely to achieve financial stability, allowing them to focus more on their priorities. “A bachelor’s degree holder earns a median of $2.8 million — 75% more than if they had only a high school diploma” (Dickler, 2021). This leads to the question, “What makes a successful person successful?” or “Is the success of people solely based on the amount of money you make?” Well, money is not equivalent to success. There is not one clear-cut metric that can fully measure how successful a human being is. However, in general, those who make more money tend to be successful at what they do (Horton, n.d.).

Aside from money, college also provides people with a multitude of opportunities for growth. Certain degrees require attaining higher education, and this provides students with the necessary knowledge for their course. In addition, college presents students with real-world applications wherein they encounter challenges and uphold responsibilities. However, is it right to force our children to abandon their passions for the sake of their education? This highlights the responsibility known as time management. Although education should be prioritized, one’s interests and passion should not be neglected. I would suggest that my child finds the balance between their education and passion.

As parents, it is our responsibility to raise our children while advising and reminding them of the consequences of their actions; thus, providing them with a bigger picture or another perspective. By simply going to college, one is simply more likely to make more money and to be successful at what they do. It is also a doorway of opportunities that prepares students for the real world. Thus, if my children doubt the significance of college, I would emphasize the necessity of pursuing a collegiate education.

References:

https://www.pewresearch.org/social-trends/2014/02/11/the-rising-cost-of-not-going-to-college/

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/10/13/more-education-doesnt-always-get-you-more-money-report-finds.html#:~:text=A%20bachelor's%20degree%20holder%20earns,to%20%243.3%20million%20for%20men.

This is the best way in securing my child's future. College will teach my child the things they need to enhance their skills.

As a parent, I will enlighten him/her on how those people were lucky to have an opportunity to be successful without the need for college. I’m going to explain to him that those who became wealthy without college were at the right place at the right time. Since most of them became successful because of business, I will tell my child that they had the passion. They let it come to them, they did not force it to happen. Those people have skills that can benefit them in the future. We all have different paths in our lives. Not everyone will have the same consequences. Skipping college is a very risky move especially if you don’t have anything to back it up. The college dropouts already had something prepared for themselves in the future. So if my kid is having second thoughts about college, I would ask if he/she found an opportunity right now that can help him in the long run. I will tell him to make sure that he has the skills that can help him in the future. I cannot just support my child on whatever he wants, that would make me a careless parent. I need to make sure that my child is ready to face the challenges.

In all professional fields and areas of success, educational backgrounds play a major role in people’s opinion of a person’s capabilities and skills. It is a sad reality that is present in most aspects of our economy and society.

We live in a highly capitalistic society that values profit over feelings. In search of that profit, individuals tend to hire and select people who they consider ‘safe’ or ‘low-risk’. Having a college degree certainly increases that economic safety. Which increases a person’s prospects for high-paying work and jobs.

Why aim for high-paying work? There is in fact a simple answer: money. Money plays a crucial role in our world. No one can deny or say that money is useless. Sure people can argue that money isn’t all that important, but it sure is helpful when you are able to buy your own food to avoid starvation. Our own neglect or failure to earn money will result in poverty. A state of poverty where one is deprived of food, shelter, and water. Now how can one pursue his or own goals in life while they are literally dying? Before anyone can pursue their passions, joys and love, they must have the economic capital to access those things in the first place. Entering college increases a person’s economic value which in turn increases their prospects for wealth.

Although this construct in our society limits people from achieving their true goals and passions, this capitalistic construct promotes productiveness within our country and the world. The whole point of why we are rewarded with wealth for our duties and services is to promote work. The more people work, the more development and progress we gain in our world.

I do agree that there are statistical extremes of college dropouts who have found success in our modern society and international markets such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, and various actors and singers. However, we must note that these pioneers of technology and business have dropped out from some of the most prestigious colleges of America; Harvard, Stanford, Yale, etc. The fact that they qualified for these Ivy-League schools in the first place already says a lot about their capacity and skill. It is also important to note that most of these pioneers and tech-giants found the ideas for their companies and built big connections through college.

Also who says that you can’t pursue your passions after college? If you're worried about time, then you must know that no one can stop you from pursuing your own ventures after college. A good college degree can also provide you a sense of economic stability and economic capital to pursue those ventures/passions in the first place. Expecting that you can invest that much into your passion while in college without a source of income or economic stability is simply wrong.

Does college even matter anymore? The question that everybody has been asking nowadays and I am here to tell you my honest opinion about this. Indeed you could become successful even when you drop out, but this is not guaranteed, whatever you take from these two will surely still be challenging. Based on my knowledge, it is a better option to take college, as you could discover what you are really passionate about, you could broaden your knowledge, and could have a higher chance to be in a better workplace. Some people don’t know what they are passionate about, and what they want to do as work for the rest of their lives, and college is a good place to find out since college is related to the work you want to take and the subjects are going to be related to your work too, it’s basically like getting a preview of what your work would be, and if you are interested with what you are studying then you’d do good in that field of work in the future. It is a good way to decide your future with college. Your knowledge could also be broadened with studying in college, since it would be focused and inline with your future work, it would lead to more realizations and mastery of skill. Mastering the skills you need could be achieved in college, and that could lead to having a better future and ensure a higher chance of success when you finally leave college. Lastly, it could really lead to a higher chance to be in a better workplace if you decide not to start your own business, mostly the ones that do dropout are businessmen, and starting a business doesn’t really require a college degree. If you were to let’s say you pursue a career in the medical field, it is very important to have a college degree since it shows how much you have learned, how much you know and shows that you have a higher understanding of handling situations. In the medical field, knowing what the equipment does is a must, and having sufficient training is also required which could be done in college. Fields such as law, engineering, and some other fields require their workers to have experience before they even get accepted into a company to work and if you were to pursue one of these fields without college, well let’s just say you wouldn’t get in. College gives us an opportunity to be more successful before going into the real world to become more successful. The certificate we get and the degree we take is like a ticket to the workforce as most of them, especially the best ones, really look for this. Hence if you’re undecided, I’d strongly recommend you to take college.

As a parent, I would encourage my son/daughter to attend college as most professional jobs require a college degree to go into. Even though there are alot of people such as Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, and many more, it is not practical and stable to dream of these things. I am not saying that it is bad to dream of those big things, however it is important that you stay practical to things and this is one of them. College allows you to shape and form your skills based on the course you wish to apply, it may be tedious but not all things in life are easy. College also allows you to have stability in your life since most jobs, and companies accepted decent to high paying jobs, to those who have a college degree this would be useful since if ever my son or daughter decides to pursue his dream or on something he is passionate on, we have to consider what if he fails, what if things don't go according to plan college can serve as your plan B.

My son and daughter would say that money would not matter to him but the thing is there is only one thing that revolves this world around. Money is needed to do things such as provide the essential necessities, saving, house, electricity, water, and even your wants. College will be you way to provide a stable job, and even though you want to pursue your passion you can finish you college degree first, and then you can pursue your passion so that just in case you didn't succeed or you lost the passion to it you can have a backup stable job, and you won't have to waste your late 20’s or 30’s trying to accomplish you college degree, and by then you would not have enough money to enroll college because you are no longer dependent to your parents anymore.

It is never bad to dream or wanting to pursue something, but it is important to have economic stability and a college degree will help that, and time is also not your best friend so it is best to make the most out of the things you have while you are dependent to your parents.

If I were a parent and would suddenly encounter a situation similar to the given, I would educate my child on why college is important for their future. Particularly in this society where not everything is guaranteed to you, a college degree is an important requirement of most professional jobs. Some of those famous people whom children look up to did not attend college, this is true for them but it may not be the case for everyone. A good educational background paves the way for a good career. Unlike if you follow what you are passionate about, you are doing something very risky. These risks would also have their own consequences, and what kind of parent would let their child experience them. Although if my child would want to pursue their own passion, I would still make sure that they acknowledge the importance of going to college. College can also serve as a backup plan if he/she decides to follow his/her passion and suddenly backfires. Ultimately, it will still be their call, and the best thing a parent can do is to be supportive of it.

Being a parent, the way you act around your child could mean everything in the child’s decision. Similarly, how our parents act we can assume we have somewhat a similarity on our parent’s decisions.

Personally, pursuing the benefit of not showcasing too much in education like college is really substantial. From my known and matured peers, most of the people who did nothing but study landed in office jobs or substantial jobs that has substantial salary. Though an “ok” job many of them describe it as “company slave” or “nawawalan na sila ng motivation” or they don’t have a say in almost anything they do so technically they are unhappy. On the other hand, the people I know who partied and actually had fun and made connections in college are starting their own businesses and are actually really happy at their own jobs. Be it, selling figurate candles, has their own café/restaurant at such a young age and working as artists of many sorts. These people are happy with their jobs even though they did not do the best in school and is actually contented with what they have.

My advice for my child, allow yourself to lead the way. Focus on one thing that you can repeatedly do many times without getting frustrated, bored, lacking motivation or irritated. As long as the career you want can sustain you and will make use of your abilities the best and you are not stepping on anyone, choose that career. Never let anyone ever downgrade you or your career based on what you did in the past, present or even future.

Working as someone you don’t want to be or don’t want to do is really hard and will just create toxicity in your life. My own parents even told me that the office is a really toxic place full of stepping on others, “toxic pagalingan” and many backstabbing. I do not want to suppress my child in that kind of lifestyle. I chose to have a child and whatever they want to do, they shall do it as long as it is not harming anyone or themselves.

College is a place to find yourself and is a good backup to whatever career path you have. Entering college will give you new life experiences. Do not let college define you but let college HELP find your true meaning and true self.

College is defined as an educational establishment providing higher education while success is defined as an accomplishment of an aim or purpose. If a son or a daughter of mine asks whether to study well or focus on something they are passionate about, I would ask them first how do you want your journey to be. College is a boring way to attain uncertain success. Passion is what drives people from being workers to being leaders. I do believe it when Socrates said that we are self learners and that education is the development of human capabilities to the extent that an individual can control his/her environment and fulfill his/her ambitions.

Talking from personal experience, my grandfather never graduated college before he started his own company. He learned business talk from selling sacks of salt from a young age. His ambition and curiosity educated him. It took him longer to attain success but success became inevitable. We are unique and that is what's special about us. We have the ability to adapt, learn, and store knowledge from our own experience better than just hearing it from lectures and seeing it on screens. Education is a reconstruction of experiences, which means we may get educated just by living. A diploma is just a piece of paper you get by answering quizzes and shading letters. I believe that educated people come from learning through experiences.

It would take a lot of passion and courage. So it is critical that they engage in those specific educations, and if my children graduated from college, they will be able to brag about their diplomas and degrees and will be able to apply for higher positions more easily than those who did not graduate from college, who will only have white collared jobs and simple jobs.

Take the safe path towards financial stability or take the gamble and freefall into the unknown? Knowing how this unforgiving world and society works, the choice really shouldn’t be that hard to make. As a parent, though, I only want what's best for my child. I wouldn’t be able to stand to see him/her unhappy studying college if it isn’t what he/she wants to do. It would even break my heart more to see my child suffering the consequences of this cruel capitalistic society in the future. Therefore, I would strongly suggest my child to consider going to college because it provides a better chance at a secure future and teaches values that can be carried into adulthood.

Sure, neither path guarantees ‘success’ and an actual secure future. However, college presents way more benefits. The most obvious benefit is that college education makes it more likely for you to land a job. Why? One of the most important things that employers look for in a resume is the educational background of the applicant. College graduates are more likely to be picked by employers compared to those without a college degree.

Why do you want to land a job anyway? Isn’t life about taking risks and living it to the fullest? Well, yes and no. How else do you expect to get the means to live your life to the ‘fullest’? Whether you like it or not, money and jobs are what keeps humanity from completely disappearing off the face of the Earth. You can argue all day about money not being able to buy happiness, which would be true to a certain extent, but it sure does give an opportunity to not be miserable; there’s a difference. Can’t pay the bills? Can’t pay for groceries? The world will not stop just for you because it literally could not care any less. Going through the hardships of pushing through college is worth it as it may build character and prepare you for what’s to come outside. Living in fear of debt, homelessness, and starvation is a different kind of struggle that I wouldn’t be able to handle seeing my child experience. Sometimes you really just have to do unhappy things to get to a stable or ‘happy’ point in life; that’s just the reality of this world we live in.

I see college, or school in general, as a ‘daycare center’ for the real world. Here, you learn values and principles that you can carry over until you grow older. An important value that can’t be taught, but learned in school, is discipline and time management. When you’re given loads of tasks, you’re left with no choice but to discipline yourself and learn how to balance everything all out. If you can't even get your life together in school, how do you expect to pursue your passions outside of school? If you look hard enough, you might even be able to find courses related to what you want to pursue outside of school. That way, you get to learn more with the aid of an actual licensed teacher and get the proper guidance you need.

I’m not discouraging my child to quit his/her passions and play it safe his/her entire life. College education is just one of the many ‘stages’ one can’t miss out on. Not just because of the teachings and classes, but it should be where the fun begins. In college, you start to build relationships with people of different backgrounds and figure out who you really want to be. You don’t even need to quit your passion at all when you get to college, you can just do it on the side. If it blows up and does really well then why not, right? It’s just that dropping out is way too big of a risk to take. You really have to be sure that you’re that 0.00000000001% just like some of the celebrities, internet icons, and billionaires we have today. My child, my offspring, I only want what's best for you. Unless you’re REALLY sure that you’re that 0.00000000001%, please for the love of God go to college.

One's education is important and is the most crucial and important thing a person can have. As a parent, I will continue to push my child's college education. I will not limit my child to what they want, I personally believe that everyone should be given the chance to choose their own path and make their own decisions. My child will have the freedom to take whatever course they want, as long as it is something that they won't regret.

College dropouts and their origin stories are often romanticized. We only see bits of their suffering and we are blinded by what they have accomplished and their fame. What most don't know, those without any degrees struggle to get jobs with higher pay or jobs that require higher statuses. Dropouts are often looked down upon in companies, especially big and known companies. Not to mention failed businesses, bankruptcy, and many more. Only a few are able to rise up from their failures. The reality is, not everyone can become Mark Zuckerberg or Bill Gates. And that is the harsh reality my child must understand.

The benefit of having a college degree outweighs having to drop out and pursue the unknown. Certain benefits like specialization, education, connections, and better career opportunities are all essential in one's life. Our system is complicated, to get by in this life, you must have credentials to back you up. Education is most important if you want to live comfortably. As said, companies check backgrounds, previous school, your accomplishments, etc., failure to reach their expectations would be difficult for you in the long run. Jobs that you qualify for only benefit in the short run, it is stable yes, but the work for the money is tough. And I would like my child to grow up to have a career they actually enjoy.

In the more emotional side, I'd like to see through my child's future and make sure that they'll be stable, even when I am not around. I want to make sure that they are able to stand on their own and provide for themselves, not being able to achieve this is considered as failure to me as a parent. Like all parents say, all I want is the best for my child and I will do everything in my power to support and help them. This means providing them the proper education they need to survive in life.

Attending college is no doubt a safer choice rather than taking a risky path of educating and handling yourself after high school. It is still without doubt that is is unsure of your success that if you attend college you would reach your dreams. It will all depend on what you what to do in your life and how you would contribute to the societies that we are in. If you choose not to enter college and pursue your love for your own business, foundation, career, etc. you should be aware of the risks that you take. Well I would also tell my son/daughter that whatever you choose, remember if it would be true to yourself, good for yourself and the people, and if it would be of use for everyone's betterment.

If my son or daughter insists on what I want for her, if he/she insists on my opinion whether college is important or not, I would say that college is not a 'need' to be attended to. A lot of entrepreneurs and successful people out there did not attend college, but with dedication and hard work, they surpassed college graduates. Some of these people are Bill gates and Elon Musk. Yes, College can make a higher chance for you to reach your dream job, but if there is no course or no teaching that would help my son/daughter achieve his/her goal then I would not force her to pursue college. I believe that college is just an option to take to pursue your dreams. With passion and determination, anyone can reach their dreams

I would personally advise my child to reconsider his decision. I understand the importance of passion in career planning and the significance motivation holds in pursuing a job. College is not always necessary as well and I do acknowledge that many have succeeded in life without a degree. In fact, experience is way more preferable than knowledge for most companies and businesses. Owning a stable business is advantageous as well to avoid losing a secure source of income.

However, pursuing a higher education is still the safer option among the two. Life is not so kind as to give everyone equal opportunities. Financial stability is not easy to come by and as a parent, I would like my child to achieve it in the most secure way possible. Universities also hold several benefits. Acquiring a field of expertise and specialization, career opportunities, friends and communications are just some examples of the numerous advantages there are in pursuing college.

Passion is an abstract concept that holds a great influence in our actions. It can be found anywhere, even in places one may not expect. In spite of that, it does not always align with what is best for us. This harsh reality is brought on by the greedy capitalistic system that manipulates the world. Dropping out of college could equate to challenging this social structure and in no way is that an easy task. It is grueling to experience business failures, rejection letters, poverty and many more consequences that may occur from limiting one's horizons.

All things considered, I understand where my child may be coming from. As much as possible, even I would want my child to follow his/her passion in order to enjoy working. However, he/she must face reality and understand the repercussions of his/her decisions. Instead, it would be best to choose a course or program that is aligned or similar to one's passion. It is beneficial to just acquire a degree in general in order to have a back-up plan. No matter what path my child may choose, I would only wish the best for them.

As a parent, I would let my child choose whatever path they want to take. However, education is still important because a successful future is not guaranteed when you drop out of college. And I would let my child think of the possibilities when they decided not to pursue college because we cannot foresee what would happen in the coming years. Furthermore, most occupations demand an educational background, a diploma, and experience in order for you to be qualified for the job.

However, Mark Zuckerberg's life has served as an inspiration to many individuals, particularly youths who have no plans or are still unsure about going to college. I can say that it is an inspiration to many because he became successful, and earned tons of money when he founded and launched the most famous social media platform now which is facebook despite being a college dropout. But it doesn't mean that if it worked for him, it would also work for my child.

This is why as a parent, I would like them to continue their studies because if I can still support them financially, then they should focus first on learning rather than working at an early age.

As a parent, I would love my children wholeheartedly. I would not be one to leave their prospects to chance. Personally, dropping out of much-needed education would definitely be comparable to rolling dice. Some people argue how dropping out of school and becoming successful is simply luck's doing. However, it isn't at all based on luck; as it is more of a high-risk gamble. People may blindly exert all their efforts into one goal, under the guise of pursuing "passion", momentarily coming up empty. As people put all their eggs in one basket, they deny themselves of succeeding in varying fields. In dire desperation, they may even resort to such gnarly means. Sadly, pursuing your life's passion rashly does not fully guarantee success. With this in mind, I would take the time to explain this to my child.

College is a basic necessity for one's development. It equips a person with such profound skills necessary in succeeding in one's passions. Through this, a person may even find lifelong companions who share similar interests, encouraging them to succeed seamlessly. Besides this, the opinions of people met in college may help in decision-making in the long run. It never hurts to garner second opinions, no matter how odd their suggestions may be. Besides this, we can also indulge in the surface-level aspects of dropping out of school. To ensure others of the integrity of any business service, a proper educational background would be most opportune. However, once a person drops out of school; they lose the privileges coming from having a solid educational background.

It is perfectly normal to explore easier routes for success. I would not blame or hold this against my child for gathering ideas regarding this matter. Believe me, I've skimmed through numerous means to earn cash hastily. Though at times, we must not give in to earthly temptations; as these become a slippery slope to resorting to rash means. My child's future is entirely up to him/her, as I am only here to provide support as they persevere. I would encourage my child to choose collegiate courses corresponding to their passions in life, allowing him/her to learn more about these. All in all, earning a degree in college allows one to broaden their reach of opportunities.

Can college grant my child’s wish to live the best life he/she can have? As a parent, I would like what is best for the future of my son/daughter and I will let them take the path they would want to pursue however both sides could be conflicting. Conflicting in a sense that I want them to have a better future than what I can achieve but at the same time, I could not just let them decide their own paths considering the situation we are in today. Yes-I will let them choose the career or passion they want, but the short answer is that I simply would let themselves be the determining factor of the true value of success and not let them skip college.

It is important to note that the successful college dropouts we know came from prestigious colleges even the cream of the crop in our country could not attend. Having to join college is already a privilege and an opportunity, given that some do not have the financial means to attend so. There are scholarships that can be offered for sure, but out of the many aspiring college students the government and the private sectors could only aid a miniscule selection. The sad reality is that we live in a third world country, a country where we all don’t have equal opportunities as the rest; no doubt that some people are successful considering that they did not continue studying in college, however, the kind of “life outcome” they have cannot be a guarantee for most of us.

College also does not promise the successful life of a person but there are more benefits than skipping it. One of which is college could give individuals more chances of getting a job, which equates to the assurance of having a source of income=money. Most companies in the country require people with educational attainment therefore college graduates have less to think of in terms of the struggle to land a job. Attending college can help students hone their sense of responsibility as well as grow as an individual. College does not stop them from their passion too, in fact, college could be a source of passion which then starts the career journey of an individual.

Some people I know are not free to choose their own future careers because of their financial situations being a hindrance. That is the main reason why I am also studying hard, so they are free to choose the career they want without having to think of financial problems; ergo on my part I failed as a parent if they based their career option just because of such. I would still require my offspring to attend college, not having a college degree just doesn't feel right. He/she can also have relationships with other people who can bring out the best of themselves, they even might create the most innovative idea of all creations given their connections with such people, who knows? I consider college as a “free pass” (although it is not entirely free) of opportunity, the degree diploma basically gives us the ticket of salvation. College is not an easy path to take but it will indeed open us more doors of opportunities.

Considering where we live, which is a third world country, I would very much discourage my child to drop out of college. As much as I would support their decisions in life, I strongly believe that dropping out of college will severly limit their job opportunities. As such, I would tell them to seriously think it through and possibly reconsider. If not, I would tell them to ask themselves if they are ready and can continuously follow a long road of hardships with no certainty of success and can possibly lead to nothing but losses.

I believe that school is not so much for teaching us academically, but instead for teaching us to discipline ourselves to be able to work properly and be a responsible and accountable person in the future. Nevertheless, having a diploma is still necessary as it will allow employers to reassure themselves that the one they're employing is educated, and shows promise as an employee.

Even if my child manages to start a business of their own, there is no guarantee that it will stay afloat, let alone blow up in success. Sure, there are many people in the world who have dropped out of college and were still successful, but how does that number compare to the whole population of the world? There are countless things to take into account for a business to be successful, on top of the already risky nature of starting their own business. In short, skipping college to start a business is a huge gamble that has a higher chance not to pay off.

Dropping out of College is a big decision to make, and should treated be as such. It is one that can affect your life heavily, either positively, or negatively.

While it is true that there are dropouts that are successful, the opposite is also true. There also exists those who dropout and don’t become successful. It’s just that those who are successful get glorified more. My point is that, dropping out of college isn’t a one way ticket to success. There are also a lot of risks when it comes to dropping out. While it’s true that you get a lot more time to work on your passion, the risks you get aren’t all that worth it. When you decide to not go to college, you lock yourself out of all the opportunities that college provides.

It’s not just that dropping out is risky, it’s that going to college is just too safe to consider dropping out. The risk of not having a decent life for just a small slim chance of “success” isn’t worth taking. Not only that, but if you consider the alternative of going to college in comparison to dropping out, staying in college is just a no brainer decision to make. Staying in college gives you a good shot at having a decent life, with more access to job opportunities that can provide stable income. It’s true that college doesn’t make you “successful”, but we all have our own definitions of success anyways. Some want to be billionaire philanthropists while some just want to have a quiet life living a 9-5 job. Nevertheless, college can still contribute to whichever success you want.

As a parent, I think I would have to have them go to college as, in my opinion, its the better decision for them. Of course, I also want them to follow their passion, but I don’t see how not going to college can help them pursue their dreams. Rather, I think that there can be space for both, or even maybe for them to find their passion through college.

College is one way to acquire knowledge about a specific field we want to pursue. It is undoubtedly important, especially in our country where people look down on individuals who were not able to finish college. However, school/ college is not for everyone.

As your mom, I insist that you shall attend college since this decision is the decent one. Having a college degree is often required in acquiring jobs, especially those with high positions. There will be several job opportunities offered, unlike for those who did not graduate college. Not only that, but college is also where connections with different people from different backgrounds/ lifestyles are made. You won't just be learning about the field you are interested in, but you will also learn from people, surroundings, and experience. It prepares you for the real deal. Generally, I think people who finished college are in advantage over those who did not.

It is great that you, my child is passionate about something. In fact, college might help you enhance your knowledge and discover your capabilities. There may be people who became a billionaire despite not going to college but it won't compare to the number of people who have finished college that is successful. It may be possible but it is almost rare. It is completely risky and the chances of being successful are lower. There are more people who have a hard time finding a decent job for themselves than those who actually succeeded despite not finishing college.

To add, you are lucky to be given the chance to study. Not everyone is given that kind of luxury so you have to cherish what you have.

However, I should also keep in mind that college is not for everyone. Will I be a good parent if I force you to go to college? It might actually be a way for you to build resentment toward me. Therefore, whatever you decide on will have my 100% support. I am just here to hopefully provide realizations for you.

I will not let my kid go to college if his passion drives him to a field where a college degree is not needed. There are more ways to become successful without a college degree than having a college degree. If my son or daughter decides to follow her heart and, by coincidence, his/her passion does not require a college degree. I would let him/her follow and work on what she wants to become in the future. Opportunities in the Philippines have primarily escalated, with people becoming millionaires without going to college or having to go through an educational program that gives you a college degree. The four years he will waste on college is a pretty long time.

I have met people who recently discovered their passion while in college and deeply regretted their decision to go: many people are musically inclined in arts and other degrees. Yes, schools are also evolving and adapting the opportunities for students who do not want to follow the regular curriculum because their passion is not included in the curriculum can now go to college following their passion. Since the new curriculum is fairly new, it is not guaranteed that you will learn or improve on your studying subject.

If my son/daughter's passion requires a degree and he/she does not want to go to college, that is a different story. College is necessary when what you want to become in the future requires a college degree and a good college.

As a parent, I would in most circumstances, prefer to leave decisions to my own discretion but when it comes to major life-changing decisions, I would prefer to allow my child to choose their own path. It is true that college can be pretty advantageous, not to mention it being a requirement for specific fields. Though in our times, within the third world late-stage capitalistic state we live in, a college degree really is slowly becoming one of the only social safety nets one can rely on to improve their own marketability towards employers. I believe that it is a good thing that we’re slowly moving towards a proof of work or portfolio-based employment practices, especially in the currently booming Technology sector. In an ideal society, we wouldn’t have to worry about college affecting our future employability and social status, rather opting to attend tertiary education out of the pursuit of knowledge, but within the bounds of our economical limitations, I would highly suggest my child attend a University and at the very least earn a bachelors degree.

If my child starts doubting the importance of college, I will have healthy conversation with him/her. I will explain why I personally do not think that not going to or dropping out of college is the way to go. Having a College degree is expensive which is why others opt to earn money right after high school graduation while others are contemplating on the importance of a college degree. As a parent, I continue to work hard just for my child to have the privilege of going to college. Hence, he/she should not take this for granted. Attending college would enable them to identify and hone their skills and passions. And, become more self-reliant and develop essential knowledge and experience that they will use to succeed in the future. Indeed, getting a bachelor’s degree is a stepping stone for success. It helps you open the door as it would boost your job prospects which will make you less likely to be unemployed. A lot of employers nowadays are requiring applicants to have at least a college degree. It is better to be sure and secure the future. Yes, there are billionaires like Bill Gates who dropped out of college, but that doesn’t mean that you will end up successful like them. In a blog he even stated that he just got lucky and getting a degree is a way more sure path to success and it’s true! There are much more people who are successful because they actually have a degree and it is statistically proven.
