My name is Flora. I am privileged to be your instructor for this unit. I am from China originally and have been living in Australia (Sydney and Darwin) for 20 years. I am a registered nurse, lecturer and mother of 3 children.I have a passion for teaching and have been teaching nursing students since 2005, from undergraduate to the HDR students. My teaching interest developed under the influence of my mother who devoted 40 years to primary school teaching in China. I enjoy seeing students master knowledge and skills over time. As a nursing lecturer in particular, I find teaching rewarding because I have opportunities not only to demonstrate my clinical skills, knowledge, and expertise to students, but also to learn from the discussions and insights presented by students. I like reading, listening to music, travelling and cooking. I do yoga once a week and walk for 45-60 minutes a day. I am trying to keep myself fit in order to take care of my family and job. I hope you will work out a good balance between your work, home chores and study because your well-being is important.I hope you will enjoy this unit and I look forward to working with you.
Kind regards,
Flora

Hello Flora and fellow students,I'm am happy and excited to have you as lecturer in charge again for this unit, Flora. My name is Juanita and I am a Clinical Nurse in the Cardiac Investigations Unit at the Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane. I have always had a leaning toward teaching with a goal to merge my nursing career toward nurse education since completing my hospital training in 1992. I have invested a large portion of my clinical practice in cardiology and currently hold a teaching role in the unit. I enjoy the dynamics of people, their history, story and accomplishments. I enjoy facilitating student nurses and would like to work more specifically with student nurses in bridging the theory to practice gap in the clinical environment and skills development. My family and I love touring around Australia having driven to the Red Centre, Perth and Broome and look forward to more trips in the near future.Warm regards,Juanita

Good afternoon - my name is Priscilla Barclay - this is my 5th subject of the Master of Clinical ed and I'm really enjoying adding to my knowledge. I'm a registered nurse with a background in paediatrics - I've been involved with tertiary education for about 5 years now and I love it. I work in a university and teach into the undergraduate nursing program. What I have learnt in the units of the Masters of clinical Ed has been immediately useful to me in my role. I have 4 children, 3 are mine and 1 is inherited from my husband. Their ages are 24, 17, 17 and 11. It's a very busy household. I have been a yoga teacher for over 25 years and have taught in hospitals, schools and my own private business Rainbow Yoga. I do a little yoga just for myself these days or when people request private lessons from me. Its' gorgeous to be involved with. I have also taken up high intensity interval training and weights - I find I require more action now to stay fit now that I'm in my late 40s. I find teaching so rewarding - it's a gift that changes peoples lives and brings quality and promotes evolving of people that may not have had that opportunity before. I believe in authentic teaching from the heart and that your intention plays a major role in the outcome of all of our interactions with people. I look forward to hopefully seeing some familiar names that have been on the DFs previously and to continue our electronic discourse. Thank you. Priscilla.

Hello Flora and all student comrades for course HLSC618. My name is Vivienne Whitehead. This is my 4th module to date . I have been a neonatal intensive care nurse for the vast majority of my career. Starting on a surgical unit in my home town of Liverpool UK at the Children;s Hospital where i did my student training to become a paediatric nurse. I have worked in the acute sector mostly both in UK and in Australia. Have also worked in the community taking babies with complex needs home. For the past 9 years i have been a clinical nurse educator on a very busy tertiary referral level 6 neonatal unit. I love the clinical side of my work but am passionate about the professional aspect of neonatal nursing. It is a privilege to care for babies and their families rather than a right. what would i like to get out of this unit? Being part of a diverse group of adult learners and taking as much as i can from their experience, knowledge and opinions/ perspectives is important to me, i have valued the discussion board interactions in previous modules more than i thought possible, as i am used to traditional classroom learning. Secondly learning about curriculum development will, i hope, help me to bring together many aspects of neonatal care which are often taught in isolation. putting them together in a curriculum will provide a cohesive and comprehensive body of knowledge that can be utilised for staff commencing their journey as a novice neonatal nurse.

Hi Everyone. My name is Lucy and I work full time as a Practice Development Nurse in a large metropolitan Melbourne Hospital. I am enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education and this is my first semester. This is my fifth year working in education. I initially worked with undergraduate students completing clinical placements at the hospital and I am currently part of the Graduate Support team. My role involves providing clinical support and supervision to graduate nurses, presenting education on a number of topics, teaching skills, assessing clinical competencies, facilitating simulation training and providing feedback on clinical performance. I have not had a great deal of experience with curriculum design so in this Unit I look forward to gaining a better understanding of planning curriculum to best meet the needs of the learners. I hope that the knowledge I gain is useful and can be implemented into my workplace when planning education for graduate nurses. Looking forward to learning from everyone and sharing ideas.
Hi all, I am currently working in the GEM Unit as a Clinical Nurse
Specialist in one of Melbourne’s major tertiary hospitals as well as being a
sessional Clinical Teacher for undergraduate nursing students.

HLSC618 is my last subject (elective) for my Masters of Clinical
Nursing and hopefully I will graduate this December.

I choose this subject as an elective in order for me to
know more about curriculum and how to design a unit.

I wish you all good luck for this semester.

Cheers,

Darrel

I have been a registered nurse for eight years now, and most of my work experiences are in nursing education, both in the academe and clinical setting - medical/surgical nursing & medical oncology. I am on my second semester taking Graduate Certificate in Clinical Education, and I am learning a lot and enjoying the course so far. If you remember me Flora, I was one of your students last semester for HLSC608, and I am very much delighted to be under you again this semester.

I have a bit of an idea on curriculum design when I worked in the academe as a clinical instructor. Hello Flora and fellow study gurus,

My name is Amanda Prinsen and I am onto my 4th
unit of my post graduate in clinical nursing. I am a registered nurse on a busy
regional surgical ward and decided to further my education to better my career
prospects.

I often mentor students on placement and this is where I developed
my passion for teaching and clinical education. As I am not in a clinical educator’s
position, I feel I have a lot to learn and am excited to hear other peers
opinions and experiences.

I look forward to this unit HLSC618 as I don’t believe I have
ever really thought about the importance of the curriculum design.
