Especially in subjects like mathematics, which emphasize logic and relationships between concepts. Cognitive development theory helps teachers analyze what students need to learn first before tackling more challenging topics or what background knowledge they require to grasp current mathematical concepts. All of this requires teachers to understand cognitive science.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>My question is whether modern technology will truly replace the human brain. I realize that my question may not be directly related to the topic, but it does have some relevance. I'm unsure if technology can replace the human brain, but I do believe that it can certainly reduce the workload on the human brain. One of the major goals of my study in educational technology is to apply modern technology to alleviate the workload of teachers. Our teachers are already very tired, but when you think about it, does that mean students are truly learning the knowledge we're teaching? Just because teachers do more doesn't necessarily mean students learn more. And then, cognitive overload serves as a reminder that, influenced by various factors, the human brain has limitations when it comes to absorbing knowledge. This is where technology can help us better manage information, much like many apps that assist you in memorizing GRE vocabulary by following the forgetting curve. Cognitive overload is an important concept that reminds us to be cautious about the impact of information overload and learning burdens on students. Technology can assist us in managing information more effectively and providing education content tailored to students' cognitive characteristics.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I have learned that we have complete control over extraneous load, which impacts the students' germane load. I have learned how I can best keep their extraneous load lower, even when the intrinsic load is high. When looking back at my questions, I can answer that yes, this should work well for all learners and can be used in teaching all subjects. Yes we can't control what we teach, but we can control how we teach and deliver it to the students, which is crucial.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The fact that our working memories have a small capacity and a short duration is what we are dealing with as we want to learn more.<br>&nbsp;</div><div>Too much demand on working memory comes from an abundance of novel information. More information than we can process. But high cognitive load is also strongly influenced by the number of elements in working memory that interact with each other. Often, complex learning is based on interacting elements that must be processed simultaneously.&nbsp;</div><div><br>When we are able to chunk multiple elements of information together, there is more working memory capacity available for solving problems and processing information.<br><br></div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I realized after reading the content from this week that I did actually know what brain based learning is, but had always heard it called cognitivism.  The change in lexicon was the primary issue in relation to understanding we would be discussing Piaget, Vygotsky, and building upon previous knowledge to build new knowledge.  I did find it interesting reading more deeply about cognitive load and have been actively considering this information when planning my lessons. </div>]]></description>

Our brains tend to retain 90% more information when the information is in the form of a visual as compared to information that is simply text.&nbsp; Additionally, scaffolding lessons help reduce student cognitive load.&nbsp; Connecting content with students prior knowledge and experiences will help transfer new information into long term memory.</div>]]></description>
