Year 4 have been focussing on recording and reading time. We have been using both digital and analog clocks, reading time to the minute (as opposed to o'clocks and half hours) as well as using terminology such as quarter past and quarter to. We have investigated the duration of a minute and what can be done in that duration and as well we have begun discussing and calculating 24hr time. At home students can reinforce this by reading the time across the day and night, reading it in different ways, using a timetable as well as drawing attention to the duration of activities - for example how long do we eat dinner, how long does it take to drive to the shops - starting from a particular time.

In investigating multiplication and division we are looking at efficient strategies to solve multiplication and division problems. We are investigating by utilising our recall of number facts such as multiples, counting by amounts and doubles. We are creating arrays to represent multiplication problems and seeing how division is linked to this. At home students can be involved in learning number facts (times-tables) helping quick recall and reinforcing basic multiplication problems such as doubling, halving and x
