         <title>Westward Expansion: Gold Rush 1849</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The gold Rush was apart of the westward expansion. Back in 1849 when the westward expansion was in action gold was found at Sutters Mill. Sutters Mill was located in Coloma, California. People from all over the country started moving to California to find gold and get rich. By 1850 most surface gold was gone. Overnight Cities begun to spring up. When the cities started being made the population grew 310%. between 1850 and 1860.</p>]]></description>

This caused the United States to irritate a war between Mexico and the U.S. The war lasted from 1846 to 1848. The war was opposed by Henry David Thoreau and Abraham Lincoln. They thought the war was meaningless and just brutal. The treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended the war giving the U.S access to new lands. The U.S gained New Mexico, California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Texas, Parts of Colorado, And parts from Wyoming. </p>]]></description>
