She struggles to find work which is one of the things that she wants and needs most. This conflict is dragged out and is even brought up again in later chapter. It allowed Minny to be fearful of Hilly and keep her attitude and remarks to a minimum.

This is one of the more crucial points of the book. Mrs. Skeeter is writing a book from The Help's perspective. It is very important to understand in this time there was a lot of segregation and racism. Miss Skeeter and Aibileen are putting their lives in danger by writing this book. They are doing this by looking into the segregation and breaking the law.

She is worshiped by women in the town and is able to socially threaten those she feels threatened by. Skeeter threatens Hilly's position and embarrasses her so Hilly makes sure Skeeter can't hold any social power by excluding and rejecting her.

Minny and Aibileen could both lose their jobs and recommendations for future jobs anywhere near the area. Their families and individual safety would also be in danger. Skeeter does not have to worry about physical safety but social rejection. Her worry is that Hilly will blame Minny and Aibileen.
