To the speaker, the mind serves as a prison that prevents him/her from thinking outside the box.

This is because being quarantined in four walls implies that someone is trapped in a place. I think this statement is saying that people are trapped in their own mindsets. This statement could possibly motivate people to become more optimistic because they can determine their own "walls" or limits of their mind.
