The kind of people who Gatsby spent a lot of time around weren’t the kind of people to stick around when things got nasty. They didn’t have to endure the fallout of Gatsby’s death as their wealth allowed them to move somewhere else where there would be more parties for them to attend to.
Showing up at someones funeral didn't really fit with the lifestyles of those that Gatsby entertained with his parties. Not even Daisy and Tom seemed to be exempt from this as they also left town when things got too rough for them to handle: “They were careless people, Tom and Daisy – they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made” .

Gatsby has his own interpretation of daisy. He has be missing for most of her life. She does not love him. He does not really know her and believes in an idea of her that does not really exists. He thinks that even if she does or says something that differs from what he expects of her then it is just an act she puts on to please Tom. He is naïve and has convinced himself that daisy loves him the way he loves her.

“He wouldn’t consider it [going away]. He couldn’t possibly leave Daisy until he knew what she was going to do. He was clutching at some last hope and I couldn’t bear to shake him free!”
- Even if Daisy choose Tom, Gatsby will not give up on her. Unrequited love. Gatsby is so in love that he still thinks she will choose him, so he cannot leave her, before he is sure of her choice. Nick cannot crush his dream. The dream that Daisy will choose Gatsby.
