Muhammad Farid Amirul bin Mohd Miswan (A178400)

The first story that caught my eyes is about a teacher named Paul Clifton. The main reason that makes me invest in his story is because of his role or position as an educator. As a TESL student myself, listening to story by people who are in the same field never failed to make me feels motivated. I am interested when he says that he was very nervous during the beginning of his career, but with a growth mindset, it sets his mind that it is good to learn something new every day to improve ourselves. As a future teacher, I am going to implement his strategies in teaching which is to teach with love and passion. It might be a tough responsibility, but our future generation deserved to learn and explore the world through an impactful educational system.

The second story that I found very engaging is about a head chef, Zia Sheikh. The thing that caught my attention is when he mentioned that he changed his direction from engineering to culinary due to his passion for cooking. He deals with racism during school time and to deal with it, he spends most of his time at home and learns to cook from his mother. This is the exact period where he realised he has a passion for cooking. Things that I learned from his story are if we are very passionate about a certain path, we need to immerse ourselves in that particular environment. We need to learn from the best, never reluctant to ask and refer to the expert. The learning experiences are vital to make us improve and become better.

Muhammad Syazwan Syazwie Bin Shamsuddin (A183912)

The story that really caught my attention is in the seventh video which is about an economic program creator named Melanie Fox who was having a hard time during her university's moment. In short, she was struggling to success in her economic study especially in calculus course but she never gave up because it was her favorite field. The most important message in this video is when she said that if we don't create a mindset at our own to overcome the barrier then, the barrier will become permanent to us. Therefore, before we take action to achieve our dream, we must create a mindset that can overcome all the coming barriers. She also said that it is okay to struggle during the journey of our dream because it will be our guideline in order to face the upcoming challenge. As a chemical engineering student, becoming a successful engineer is one of my dream. To make it come true, I must set mindset for myself that I will never step back whenever I face hard time. In the video, she said that she need to take fewer classes to gain more concentration to a specific topic and take only one class during summer. Then, I can follow her by eliminating all things that disturb my attention such as television, social media and more.

Next, the last video told us about the journey of becoming a dancer in Paul Taylor Dance Company in New York City. His name was Michael Novak. His story is quite challenging because he once already gave up to become a dancer but suddenly he changed up his mindset and tried again in the industry to see how far can he go. At age 13, he developed a severe stuffer which make him to undergo speech therapy to regain his ability to speak. From that moment, he realized that he can communicated and released all his feelings and stress throughout dancing. Then, he developed another disease call shin splints and keep dancing as well as pushed the pain by thinking that he will be find. Unfortunately, the pain become more serious and he finally quit. However, one day, he started to dance again and suddenly was reminded by how much he love dancing before. Then, with the understanding of history of dance, he tried to give another shot in the industry and see how far he can go. Related to our life as a student in UKM, even if we almost gave up due to a big barrier, the mindset that already set up in our mind before help us to overcome the barrier. For example, he already set his mind to become a dancer, then suddenly quit because of disease and start again after his recovery. This show us that the mindset that we already set before will definitely useful to us when it come to overcome the challenge.

Nurnadhirah binti Norazman (A175540)

The first story that caught my attention is the Chef de cuisine named Zia Sheikh. The way he coped when he was dealing with racism at school while we was growing up had caught my attention. He went through hardship that made him stronger to become a chef de cuisine. He spend time at home with his mother in the kitchen and little did he knows, he was mimicking her moves with a smaller pot beside her. When he enrolled in engineering school, he realizes he doesn't have passion for it so he dropped out and went to culinary school. What I learn from his story is that we need to cope or dealt with literally everything in our lives. How we cope problems is very important in our precious lives. Life must go on. Now, he a bigger and stronger person than he is before. :D

The second story who had me attracted is Olivia Abtahi, who is a film director. It's very interesting that she had done 10 internships and involve in the industry for 10 years and now she's stable in terms of paychecks. She also shared very wonderful tips for those who are interested in film industry. Just shoot. I would say what I can try to implement her story in my life is to 'just shoot'. Try everything. Aristotle once said, "the more you know, the more you realize you don't know". To me, experience is important. Experience is the journey of life. Try everything. It wouldn't waste your time even a bit. :DD

Thank you,
Nurnadhirah
#staysafe

SITI KAMARIAH SUJENO
(A179385)

The first story that really caught my attention is in the sixth video which is about a film director named Olivia Abtahi who was doing so many jobs before she becomes such a successful director. I really love the points when she said that she will take all the opportunities as a learning to improve herself and did ask the seniors on how to be more better in order to produce such a good film. she taught me the importance of seeing everything as a learning opportunity and also how the hard work got her to where she is now. As we know, to achieve the successful is not only like a piece of cake, we must learn a lot. For example, she was doing 10 internships and being in the film industry for 10 years and she had learnt a lot. The most important message from this video is we must set up ourselves to success, we must work hard and also learn from the seniors because they are more longer in the field and have a lot of experiences. As a mass and communication student, her life journey is really related to me since we are in the same course and to be such a good reporter is my dream. I must learnt a lot from seniors reporter on how to handle with the unexpected situation when on air and also word hard to make my dreams become reality. She also encouraged me to always positive and work hard until I achieve what I want in my life because 'what you give, you will get back'. It shows that all my work hard will repay with the success.
Next, the second story that caught my attention is the seventh video. This video is about an economic content creator named Melanie Fox who was facing the obstacles when she was in her College. In the video, she shared how she got through one of her hardest classes in College which is calculus course but then she never gave up and joined a lot of classes and only focus the calculus class during summer because to become an economic content creator is her dream. The important message that I learnt from this video is, we must have the encourage to overcome ourselves because we will never become a successful person if we are still afraid to make the changes in our life. I really love the point when she said the struggle is real before she got where she is now. I strongly agree with that points because success is not easy to achieve. We must going through a lot challenges, facing hard times and sometimes crying before we achieve our dreams. From her journey, I also learnt that not everyone are gifted, but we can also achieve the dreams depends on how we handle it. In a nutshell, the learning experiences are very important to make us improve ourselves and become better.
Thank you and stay safe.

Nurul Najwa Binti Yusri
(A175528)

The first story that caught my attention is a story from Sam Divine who is a salon owner. As she said in the video, she never thought that her hobby could be her career path. Then, she saw the opportunity and was determined to make it happen. She knew absolutely nothing about running a business, how to open a business and anything that related to business. But she tried to learn new things by doing research and searching anything endlessly. So what I can learn from her is whatever we want to do, we will be able to do if we are committed and strive to achieve it. As a saying goes, if we can dream, we can do it. But only having a dream won't help, we also need to work towards the achievement of the dream.

Same goes to the next video that inspired me, a story shared from Olivia Abtahi, a film director. She talked about the importance of seeing everything as a learning opportunity and how hard work got her to where she is now. She takes all the work opportunities to get her better at being a director. She also said that anyone who interested in being a film director, try to shoot your own movies using any tools that you have such as a smartphone. We can see here that anything that we want to do, we just have to try it and start it. We won't learn more from a book or website unless we just try it by ourselves. Anything that we want to achieve, just grab the chances and work hard towords it.

The conclusion is Sam Sivine and Olivia Abtahi both of them have a growth mindset. They desire to learn new things and just do what they want.

Thank you.

Nur Nayli Batrisyia binti Abdul Razak (A182053)

The story that caught my attention is about a salon owner named Sam Divine. This story caught my attention because she never thought that it could be her career. She started cutting hair on her friends since she was in high school. At first it was just for fun, but after she found an article that there was somebody charging $800 for haircut she went to do a lot of research and decided to be a salon barber.

However, to be a hair stylist was not as easy as she thought. As a hair stylists there are many different options that you can choose. One of it was open your own salon. At first she thought that she would never open a salon because she knew nothing about business. Luckily, she loves to read. She googled everything to learn about business and how to manage a business so that she can make sure that everything running smoothly. Later, she became a salon owner at 27 years old.

Things that I learned from this story are when things get harder than we think, we should never give up of it. Instead we should find a way to achieve our dreams. Just live Sam Divine, we should always read to increase our knowledge.

Nurain Shavika Binti Ahmad Shauffi (A174631)

The first story that caught my attention was the freelance audio engineer. What caught my interest was that when she mentioned at first, how no one wants to work with her. However, she did not give up the things she was doing. Instead, she went and learn more skills and polish them. She also became proactive in finding a job and start approaching many people. Taking action is one of the most vital thing that needs to be done if you want to have success in your life.

The next story that caught my attention was the Chef's. He told us how he received and need to deal with racism in school. Racism is no joke and is very hurtful. So, he spend more time at home with his mother instead. He taught himself how to cook and found passion for it along the way. He also followed his dream and passion instead of his dad's. In my opinion, I believe that it is always better to follow your own dream and passion instead of doing what others want you to do. This is because, you are the one who needs to face the obstacles later on. If you have no passion for what you are doing, you will easily give up.

Lastly, the film director's story also caught my interest. She told us how before you get to the top, you have and will face many obstacles. You have to earn your way up. She also mentioned that we need to always learn from people who are more experienced. This is because, they know better than us who are less experience. What I can learn from her video is that, we should always listen more instead of talking too much. By doing so, we can get more input of things that we want to learn.

From all of the 8 videos. there are a few strategies and methods that I am able to pick up and are useful for the future. Firstly, we should never give up on doing the things we like and have passion for. We might not be be perfect in doing it at first but it gets better as you will take time learning new things along the way. Secondly, we need to always follow our own dream and passion. Doing what other people wanted you to do will not lead you to have the satisfaction in life. Next, always be eager and have the will to learn new things. It is one of the vital way for you to achieve success in life. Lastly, even if you feel like quitting, you need to always get back up. Find the will to continue and start again.

Fatin Farhah Binti Akhmal (A181886)

Zia Sheikh's story is one of the stories that caught my attention. He is now working as a chef de cuisine at a restaurant named Paowalla.
The first challenge that he faced is racism in his school. So, from that, he seldomly went to school and spent more time at home. Even so, he didn't quit learning. What did exactly he was doing at home is spending some time to know himself what did he want to be? what is his passion? He didn't give up by saying like "I'm hardly going to school, did I have a future?" No, not even once. Then one day, he found out that he had a love for arts, cooking stuff.

The second story that has inspired me is Sam DiVine's story. She is a salon owner. She decided to choose hairstyling as her career path when she saw an article that said somebody is charging $800 for a haircut. Since then, she chose it as a career path. She wanted to open a salon, but she didn't know anything related to business. So, firstly, what did she do is not give up. She did not give up and said " I will just work at other's saloon, and collect my paycheck." She bravely pushed the barrier down, challenged herself to learn a new thing by reading. She also struggled by doing some research at google about the way to start a new business and to run it. Finally, she owns a salon without any basic knowledge about a business before. That was incredible.

In a nutshell, one thing that I learned from those stories is skills can be nurtured, as long as you have the willingness to try out something new and have the strength to go through all the barriers along the new path you chose. The second thing is to choose your passion. Do not follow others' paths. You must find out your true passion because when you have an interest in something, it will be easier for you to consistent with it, although there's a lot of obstacles.

Shamita A/P Chantherasarathy Naido (A158237)

The two stories that I will be referring to are Zia Sheikh’s and Michael Novak’s. The common element which these two stories share that struck upon me is how they fought through the pain and all for their passions. They have faced numerous obstacles along the way but they still worked hard to live their dreams.

I think one of the most important things that their stories can teach us is to have a proper mindset which provides better views on the things happening in life. For example, Zia Sheikh did not focus about how difficult things were when he first started out despite not having enough money to support himself. He also ignored the perceptions of the society in regard to adults living with their parents. Instead, he continued doing what he loves and used the money he had to buy books to hone his skills. Similarly, Michael Novak chose to immerse himself in dancing to express himself, and strategizing as he realized that his body is not able to withstand such strenuous activity anymore. He also continued dancing even though he had shin splints as he believed in his passion and wanted to persevere.
Next, they always try to improve themselves through continuous learning. They also take risks when necessary as it is part of learning. For instance, Zia Sheikh constantly reads and experiment with different recipes so that he could always be better than he was and learn new things along the way. He also put himself out there to learn directly from the people around him as he understood that he could learn a lot from those people. Michael Novak created his own strategy over the years through his knowledge and experience in performing to help him with the routine. He also started learning and reading more about dance history, theory and criticism which opened up his mind and heart again about dancing. In the end, he gave another shot at dancing to see if he could bring his passion to life. Furthermore, they had high perseverance and determination as both of them had quit something at one point but not quitting in life.

I think all the above strategies can be incorporated in life as they are relevant and useful as a student. If I work to have a growth mindset, I will have better perceptions of things in life, and thus developing more positive attitudes to face any challenges. I will become more resilient, less fearful of failures and keep learning through experimenting and from the people around me as well.

Kelly change her major because of her interest. Even though it is hard to obtain a job that she like, she is fine with it and do another job before she been hired. I think Kelly's stories similar to me which I get interested in Creative writing but due to some reason, I need to minimize my interest and study businesses. what I got from Kelly's videos is, you don't have to worry about your future career ( and happiness) since good things will take time and there is a time that you will be shine. From Melanie, I just realized that its okay to struggle as it will teach how to survive and how to be independent for my own future and I should use any opportunities around me to help me cope with it.

This two figures teach us the importance of having a growth mindset. with it, we may find our happiness.

Ho Su Mei (A172264)

The two stories I have chosen are from Kelly Kramarik (audio engineer) and Sam DiVine (salon owner). What caught my attention about these two particular stories was that both these individuals did not begin with the intention or idea that they were going to be working in their current jobs. For Kelly Kramarik, it was an elective class which sparked her interest and gave her the idea that audio engineering was a possible career path while for Sam DiVine, it was an article regarding a celebrity hairstylist. It was only after realizing these possibilities that they both began making plans towards these directions.

Both these individuals faced the most challenges and uncertainties particularly when starting out. However, one of the ways that they have shown to have overcome their challenges was through perseverance and resilience. For instance, even though Kelly Kramarik was initially rejected by studios and did not manage to secure a job, her perseverance really shined through as not only was she not discouraged, but persevered on by working side jobs such as bartending, constantly looking for opportunities for internships through networking, and taking on freelance jobs before eventually receiving greater opportunities. Sam DiVine also shared a similar experience in which she remarked that starting out in the industry would mean that you would have to prove yourself and earn your way. Additionally, both these individuals share a love of learning which carried them through the challenging times. This is particularly highlighted when Kelly Kramarik shared that she had decided to apply for graduate school in order to hone her skills. She realized that honing her skills further through learning would give her an advantage in competing for jobs and had also opened doors of opportunities for her. This is similarly evident in Sam Divine’s story as she detailed how she knew absolutely nothing about opening or running a business but ended up opening her own hair salon. She explains that there was a lot of new learning and reading to be done, which was something she loved, and that Google had become her best friend as she recounted how she would search for everything business related endlessly and tried to absorb what she had found.

Overall, I think that both the strategies displayed by the two individuals namely perseverance and high resilience as well as love for learning are useful strategies that I can incorporate into my life especially as a student. As a student, it is often easy to get discouraged and fall back into the fear of failure. Therefore, having these two strategies, which are part of the growth mindset, can help place things into perspective and take the focus off the results and on to the learning process which would encourage effective and holistic learning.

Sabrina Adia binti Mohd Sharizal (A174208)

The two stories that caught my attention was the audio engineer and also the animator from TED-Ed as both of them relates well to my life.

Growing is an important part of our life, and struggling is one of the elements that spice them up. When the audio engineer told that she dropped out her major to pursue what she loved, I can relate well as I, too, dropped my science stream into Arts. The feeling of doubt, struggle, and fear are definitely familiar, as we are taking a major step out of our comfort zone. Sometimes it is better to try out new things and create our own path solely from our passion itself.

And passion is also very much important when growing. The animator said she took an unpaid internship for 3 days a week, and she took that as an opportunity and learn new skills and expanded her knowledge on traditional animation before developing to digital ones. Passion can really drive your motivation when you are passionate about a certain activity.

Both of them proofed that taking risks and hold on to your passion are one of the ways to grow your mindset. There are unless of opportunities waiting for us, and we have to believe in that.

Nurul Izzah Bt Jalal (A164878)

The two stories that I find interesting is the video from Zia Sheikh, the chef de cuisine and also from Olivia Abtahi, the film director.

What caught my eye in both of their video is the fact that they loved what they did and did not stop eventhough there were obstacles.

Most of the struggles from people in chasing their dreams is none other than the lack of resources, in other words, lack of money. Its easy to chase your dreams when you are well off and filled with privileges. However, when it comes down to putting food on a plate, most people settle with what they have and are afraid to take risks because of the lack of security our dreams give.

I can relate to Zia Sheikh's background as I too work multiple jobs and switch jobs that pay higher just to save up. The amazing thing is he did not give up eventhough his first job was not paying enough. He switched jobs frequently and in return he also got the experience and lessons he needs and all of that brings him to where he is now.

Olivia Abtahi on the other hand is another kind of breed. I had a friend once that had done 2 internships and I was amazed by that. But doing 10 internships? Most of people would have given up with the thought of 10 internships to get to where she is now. But Olivia persevered and continued doing it and learning everything along the way and she did not give up because to her the more internships she went through, the more experience she will have. She looked at life with a silver lining.

I learned from these two that every single thing that happens to your life is a direction to where you are supposed to be and if you hold on to that, you will notice that all of the pain and hardships you went through will be worth it.

The stories that caught my attention were about the career journey of a film director and the story about a content creator of Khan Academy. The first story is about Olivia Abtahi, 30 years old who is a film director that currently working under a video production company in Colorado called Mightier. What I found interesting in her story is about her passion and her loyalty for her job. Moreover, she already working in this industry for almost 10 years. I also amazed by so many ranges of jobs she can do from directing, editing, scripting and many more. It is also inspiring by how many jobs she had done before to get where she is now and she never thought of giving up. I love how optimistic her mindset is as she said it is important to remember that the person we are working for has many experiences and so many things we can learn from them. Therefore, instead of complaining about our job, why don't we take it as an opportunity for us to learn and grow.

The second story that caught my attention is about a content creator named Melanie Fox. She creates the AP Macroeconomics and AP Microeconomics content for Khan Academy. I was fascinated with her view about barriers or challenges because she mentioned that we must
not have a mindset, "I can't overcome this barrier" because we will just make the barrier permanent for ourselves. Therefore, we should always find ways to overcome barriers and believe in ourselves that we can overcome it. Other than that, she reminded us that it's okay to struggle. It is probably better to struggle than to not struggle because it is good for us to experience the success of overcoming any barriers we faced.

Both strategies are very useful for me to incorporate into my life because their struggles are relatable and I can use their strategies to defeat any challenges in my life. Therefore, I should become more optimistic in the future especially whenever I faced any hardships. I also should have a solid mindset that I can overcome any barriers that come across in my life.

SITI NURSYASYA AINA BINTI MOHAMED YUSOF (A182967)

He use his passion as his strength and I think everyone should do that because we will love to keep practicing what we like. We will be better from day by day by keep practicing and if we make that passion as our strength such as career, we will perform our best performance while enjoying it. He also try to solve his problem with positive activity. For example, when he has issue with his friend, he spend his time with her mother by learning how to cook. It shows that he can cope with the problem and endure the pain with his own creativity. This story teach me to always overcome our problem with positive thinking and use our passion as our strength in life.

The second story that caught my attention is about Melanie Fox. She is a creator of AP Economic Content. One of her line that caught my attention is " if we do not overcome the barrier, it will be permanent to us". She also said that we need to struggle and find other ways if we cannot overcome the barrier at the first time. For example, she takes few classes and summer school to make sure that she understand fully and focus more to her study. This story teach me that struggle in life is a must and very hardship will be pay at the end of the day. If we do not succeed with the first way, we should find the other way and never give up to reach our goals.

Dayang Nur Anissa binti Abang Feizal
(A173493)

The two stories that have caught my attention are from the chef and the salon owner.

For me, both of these amazing individuals share some qualities that should be taken for example. The admirable qualities they share have brought them to be who and where they are now.

Firstly, we are introduced to Sam Divine, a saloon owner. Initially, she never knew that she was going to open up her own saloon, but she did have been cutting hairs since she was young. She said that it was never a career option before. However, she’s now a business owner while getting to do something she loves. Personally, I admire how she figure out what her dream really was. Sometimes, you just need a catalyst to realize what you actually want to do in life. Besides, I respect Sam for having the courage of opening up a business. We all know how hard it can be and she also mentioned that in the industry she’s in, you need to prove your abilities to get recognition from others. Having little knowledge on what she wanted to do was not an obstacle for success. Through the love of learning, she has proven her worth. For me, in life we have to be constantly learning because through this we will be able to improve our abilities. It also shows how we have a growth mindset. To persistently learn will open up more opportunities for us.

Next, we have a chef named Zia Sheikh. Growing up, he has been facing and dealing with racism, so he spends most of his time at home with his mother. It was through his mother he started to love cooking. Also, he actually quit engineering school and enrolled himself in culinary school. It amazes me how he really followed his dream instead of his dad’s. For me, I believe in the power of being passionate. In my opinion, when we are into something we love, it won’t feel like a burden instead we will feel happy doing it. Other than that, we can feel the sense fulfillment. Zia is also a smart and hard-working man. For example, even though he had little money, he still read books and also dine out in order to improve his cooking skills. In addition to that, he is not shy to put himself directly with the people he works with to teach him in order to acquire more knowledge. This shows how diligent and sincere he is with what he’s doing. I believe when you really put your heart into something, we will eventually achieve success.

Warda binti Faisal (A170763)

The first story that caught my attention is about a chef, Zia Sheikh. I found that he had a very inspiring life story and everybody should listen to it. Even he has received many accusations through his school year, he did not put himself feeling down for too long. Instead, he did other activities that can built positive point in himself. Through that he found his passion in something and turn it to a career. Here I think, everyone has gone through some point that brings us down. It can be anything and from anyone around us. But it is important to know that there is always an obstacles in our life to make us better.

Second is from Melanie Fox the AP Economics Content Creator. In the video, she said something that caught my attention which is if we did not overcome the barrier, we just made the barrier permanent for ourselves. As she said that it was not easy for herself in the start but she keep on trying and learning until she pass the final exam. We should set in our mind that to be a successful person we need to go through the process. There is no such things as instant success in this life. If you try to hold and put some interest in something you do, you will eventually find it worth.

Mohd Nor Amirul bin Amran (A180981)

There is so many that caught my attention about these stories such as hard work people in the video who are doing weightlifting, yoga, aerobic activities and taking daily classes to improve himself in dancing even he’s struggling at the end. Other than that, is Kelly Kramarik, a freelance audio engineer. It caught my eyes because she likes to do everything not just in one course like other people.

But the one that caught my attention the most is Lisa LaBracio that worked as an animation director at Ted-Ed. I love the journey of her not just because I like watching anime but because of the up and down she went through in this field. Her determination inspired me because she was always wanting to do animation. When she was at school every time when she is being asked what she want to do she always answer the same which is something related to visual art. She chose a visual art school where the school have specific focus on traditional animation whatever reason is it that she always does what she wants to do. She joined a project, and she was not paid to work on that project. She started an animation in the independent animation world where she worked on documentary and shoot a short film. As an animation director when she gets a script or a project and from there it’s her job to do a research to get the information more in the visual sense. She looks for other artists work for the inspiration; she also spends time on Pinterest and being reading a lot to get information about the topic. So, from this I can see that she really determined to be someone who are good in animation. By watching anime, I always want to watch more because it’s addicted. But after watching at her journey I never know that it would be this difficult life as an animator.

As I can see Lisa LaBraciao overcome her challenges is by worked hard, she always draws at her desktop to improve her animation. But she doesn’t have enough hand to do the work, so she decided to hire more people to help her finish the project. But the most important thing is educational when doing the project, so she does a research a lot to get the information about what she’s going to do. It’s important to be really strong in visual story telling. That’s all come from having watch a lot of video and content, worked under project. So that they can learn from that. Other than that, Paul Clifton, a teacher leader who talked about why he wanted to become a teacher and how he is passionate about becoming a role model as a black male in the middle school classroom. Even when his first day had a huge nervous feeling but he managed to control it by thinking positively that this is how to grow himself better. He thinks that being black male there is difficult to find a job but he’s passion in teaching overcome his worried. He’s teaching other kids with love, so it doesn’t matter what subject a black male teach as long as it’s interested. He thinks like change the instruction when teaching and the most important to survive is being humble every day.

To sum up, one way to identify our center is to know our character strength. Based on the article provided scholars in the field of positive psychology identified 24 universal characters that form the fundamental traits of our personality. As they acknowledge, these character strengths are ‘descriptive’ and not ‘prescriptive’ and help to emphasize the ‘psychological goodness in human beings across cultures, nations, and beliefs.’

Muhammad Razwan Fadli Bin Rosdi (A180043)

From all the videos, I can relate it with myself life right now is Zia Sheikh and Melanie Fox's video.

For the first video is about Zia Sheikh journey choose the path become a chef is really can related to me when I was a kid. He has passion to become something that he wanted and so do I. I love to cook. So the first food that I made myself is Nasi Goreng. But before I can cook by myself, I really don't know how to cook. So, I decided to learn cooking at age 8 year old by watching my mom and my sister cook. When they go to kitchen, I will follow them. I watch and asking them to teach me. When you have passion in something, there is nothing will hold you back. From zero knowledge to become expert is really long time but you will never bored to learn something that you love. When I have leisure time I love to watch cooking show to learned about the cooking technic and learn about the ingredient. And now, from all that experiences, I can cook by myself and served it to my family to get a feedback and they love it. When they said that, I was like all my work hard is really paid off. So the key the learn something is do what ever you what to get what you want.

For the second video is about Melanie Fox journey who love economic. She said that if you want to learn something, don't to put a barrier. For me, when I was Form 4 I didn't pass to get a Science Stream Class which is I really want but instead got Accounting Class. I really not good at Mathematic so I assume that Accounting Subject will be really hard than Mathematic. so barriered myself that I will never pass for that exam later. But, for about 2 months leaning that subject, I start to love it. So I decided to learning this subject seriously by always asking a question when i don't know and volunteer to answer the question even though I always got wrong answer. I never give up. So I take a extra classes and go tuition. I struggle a lot. But at the end, I scored B in final exam and before this, I always failed. So the key is it's okay to struggle while want to become good or expert at something we like just like Melanie Fox said she struggle a lot.

NUR SABRINA BINTI MOHAMAD (A179406)

All videos that provided really inspired me. But, the stories that caught my attention the most are from Sam Divine, a hair salon owner and Paul Clifton, an elementary teacher leader. Sam Divine cutting her peers hair as a hobby, when she realize that she can makes a lot of profit by making her hobby as her career, she started working hard to make her dream comes true. Personally, I always amazed at teachers. How can they being so passionate in teaching someone that they don't even know and hoping that all their students be successful in the future. That kind of deeds that Paul Clifton shown really attracted me to do the same things as well. Sam Divine said that she didn't have any experience or knowledge about running a business. So, she takes the initiative to read and do a lot of research. According to Paul Clifton, principal would want someone who have a growth mindset and willing to grow into someone better. What can I learnt from both Sam Divine and Paul Clifton is if we want to do something, we should do our best on it. We must do a lot of researched and reading on what we want to do. Its important to have a lot of knowledge especially in something or in a field that we want to jump in. I learnt that we should always be flexible. Whatever situation that occur, we should always have a decision and backup plan. We must adapt ourselves to any situation that we are in.

MOHAMMAD EMIR ZAQWAN BIN MOHAMMAD ISKANDAR (A177882)

Each and every single one of the videos shared have an important message to be conveyed to the viewers

What caught my attention the most was the video about the 30 year old film director Olivia Abtahi. What inspires me most from her life stories and experience is her ability to just go about with whatever she plans on doing regardless of what people may say. Every opportunity is a new beginning and we should be more encouraged in taking those opportunities no matter how gruelling or challenging they may be because you never know that the next big step you take could completely change your life. Now she works under a video production company and earns approximately 80,000 dollars a year which is a huge sum of money. But let's be honest, money isn't all the goodness in a career. It's the feeling of doing something you're actually passionate about and tying yourself to the right priorities and responsibilities in life. She also mentions how experience is valuable and when you get the chance to work with people who have been in the industry longer than you have, take that as an opportunity to learn more and stop talking too much or questioning certain things. I myself am interested in filming and I think I have all the tools I need but not really much experience. Olivia's words act as a reminder that there are always people out there you may seek for and we should never be afraid to ask for help when we need it. This doesn't apply to just asking for help, but also in improving yourself in your own profession. Hesitation isn't in the question If you want something, then you should go for it and I think that's a behavioural mindset I need to incorporate more in my life.

Moving on would be about Melanie Fox who is a macroeconomics and microeconomics creator. What stood out most from her life experience was when she mentioned how if you've ever told yourself that you won't be able to do something in life, then you've just made that barriers permanent for yourself. What needs to change is a change of mindset and how we go about doing things in life. I'm a person who often doubts my own abilities and I feel like there are things about me be it my character or quality that is insufficient. It can be frustrating and depressing but at the end of the day I always find myself back on my own two feet and exceeding expectations. I think doubting yourself is easy and it takes very little to demoralise yourself. But, it takes a few tweaks in your mindset to make an entire difference. Throughout life, you're bound to face barriers and risks that you may initially think are impossible to overcome. But as the saying goes " you never unless you try" , is something i've always stuck close to. I may be weak and frail at first but i'm never afraid to try and see what happens. The same can be said for Melanie when she finally aced her math test and the feeling for her was just euphoric. She hadn't aced a math test since the 5th grade. This goes to show how a lot of things that we come across in life are actually within our capabilities. I find Melanie's story quite similar to mine. I've never believed in myself every time I sat for a physics exam. Next thing you know I actually scored an A in SPM. In conclusion, change doesn't begin anywhere else apart from your mindset and thinking.

Athirah Hanin binti Misbahudin (A177632)

All videos shared are all very inspiring to me.

The video that caught my attention the most was the video about an ELS teacher, Paul Clitton. This caught my attention due to the fact that he is a teacher and also a teacher leader. As a TESL student, I can relate so much with what he said such as how he was very nervous for his first day of working at school officially even after he had graduated from a teaching school. By having growth mindset and by thinking that there are always chances to improve, he managed to pull it off and overcome his nervousness. It is just by thinking that when you are scared, those are the times for you to grow and be better. His strategies that I can incorporate in my life is how we have to teach with love and passion. I also have to be humble everyday as in give space for improvements in terms of teaching the students. If one way does not work, we can try other ways that can help those students. What matters is how we open our mind for improvements just to make sure we give our very best.

The second video that caught my attention is a video of Michael Novak who is a dancer. This video has caught my attention because I rarely see a male dancer so I am interested to know his journey. He developed severe stutter when he was young and he expressed his feelings by dancing when he could not speak fluently. Dance has become his passion so he decided to pursue his degree in dance. During that particular time, he also developed shin splints due to improper technique while he was he doing ballet and it got worse to the point that he had stress fracture in both shins. Both stress fracture and having to stand on his feet for 80 hours a week had caused him feeling burned out and hurt him emotionally. So he quit. But then he started to feel like dancing again and was thinking about how passionate he was in dancing, he had done a lot of readings regarding dancing and it made him rekindle the flame to have a dance career. After he finished college, he decided to give it a try and have dancing as a career. His strategies that I really want to incorporate into my life is how he did not give up even though he had to face all sorts of struggles including injuries, but he always prioritize his passion in history of dancing that kept him going. I think that can be implemented in every aspect of life which you cannot simply give up especially with something that you are passionate about even how much struggles you have to get through, just get though it and try your best.

Wan Norafifah Alia bt Wan Mohammad Zulkifli (A170721)

The two stories I have chosen from the videos provided are Michael Novak (dancer) and Paul Clifton (teacher leader). What caught my attention about these two videos at first were the titles and the thumbnails. It’s rather unusual (for me, at least) to find a male dancer and a black teacher telling stories about their journey, in this case, of overcoming obstacles and vulnerabilities in their respective lives.

Michael and Paul have their own of stories but one thing they have in common is the passion for the thing they loved. Michael once experienced a severe stutter when he was young and dancing has become a way for him to communicate his feelings. Later in college, the development of shin splints and then stress fractures in both shins, together with making money less, led him to an emotional burn-out and eventually quit dancing. But then he began to have the desire to dance again and studied everything about dancing. Through that, he was reminded of his passion towards dancing and that the understanding of the history of dance has rekindled the flame inside him to have a dance career.

Paul’s story revolves around his experience of becoming a sixth-grade teacher leader with a bilingual ability to speak both Spanish and English language back and forth to help the students understand. He expressed that the feeling of going through everyday as a teacher is similar to the first day in teaching college – the feeling of nervous, scared and fear and think it’s impossible to be fully prepared to become a teacher. Yet he seemed to believe that those are the best times to grow and learn better, to get a hang of what supposed to be doing. Without the certainty – the love for teaching the kids – according to him, it can be very challenging. Having the passion for teaching is not as easy as one has to teach in progress and I quoted ‘be humble every day, because what your teaching isn’t working, so you have to change it up in some way.’

What these two stories had taught me is that when you’re certain of your passion, you can overcome any obstacles or challenges coming your way. Michael’s story reminds me of how one can easily give up or burned out due to various factors regardless of internal and external, and to get back on your feet isn’t easy when there’s no passion to begin with. Paul’s story teaches me that the amount of drive you have towards anything you wanted to become determines how successful you can be at anything. Living a life as a student has caused me to have the tendency to give up every now and then due to many reasons, but I have to constantly reminding myself of the passion I have, and that reality isn’t always easy to live by, so be humble and accept changes. When things go sideways, there’s always another way to go.

Muhammad Huzaifah bin Shamsul Bahrain (A169973)

Of all the videos that is available for us to watch, the two that had caught my attention was the story of Sam DiVine, the salon owner and Zia Sheikh, the chef.

Ms. DiVine's story starts with an interest she had since she was young. She had always been the barber for her friends and family but she never saw that as a career opportunity. It wasn't until she heard of a fellow salon owner who earned a lot and also had celebrity clients. Since then, she felt interested and started to learn and do more research regarding that career path. As she said, Google was her best friend. She would search everything she wanted to know in regards to opening a salon and making her passion her career.

Mr. Sheikh's story on the other hand started differently. He had been bullied in school, which led to him spending more time at home with his mother, who had actually lit his passion for cooking. Out of respect of his recently deceased father, he decided to put off the idea of becoming a chef and went to study enginerring. It wasn't until a group of friends decided to band together to cook a lovely Valentine's Day meal for one of their boyfriends that Mr. Sheikh realised his potential in the kitchen. He then decided to start learning culinary instead. Upon graduating, he took up jobs that didn't really pay well but to him, it didn't matter as long as there are learning opportunities. He had learned plenty of skills and know-hows of his trade by working in different places and moving around a lot. Even at his current restaurant, where he is the chef-de-cuisine (executive chef), he takes the opportunities to learn and grow as a chef and a person.

The reason these two stories caught my attention was how both of them never really started on the career path as early as others would. But that didn't stop them as you can learn anytime, anywhere and by any means. You don't have to be young to learn and being old does not mean that there is nothing to learn about. These people were met with the challenge of not knowing and took it head on, learning via the internet and through hands-on experience. In the case of Mr. Sheikh, he did not let the fact that his income was low stop him from learning about his passion.

Therefore, in applying these two stories to my life, I shall not let my lack of knowledge discourage me from anything. There is always room to learn and grow and if I fail, that's okay. It just means that I haven't learned quite enough.

SITI FATIMAH BINTI A RAHMAN (A174048)

From the videos that I watched, the two stories that intrigued me the most was Zia Sheikh’s, a successful chef, and also Melanie Fox, content creator from Khan Academy.

The way Chef Zia started off his video is by claiming that he’s making a paycheck of $75,000 a year. I mean, yes, money is the subject here. Well, we always pretend that money is not the most essential thing that we need in life, but we tend to forget that, in life, everything needs money. And the more you have in life, the more you keep wanting things to satisfy your desire. Why shouldn’t we, right? Everyone wants a stable, a comfortable life. A life that allows you to keep up with the world’s demands. And to gain it, needs more than just passion. This is when Zia Sheikh’s story should be heard.

Despite having to face racism issues in his young age, he actually dealt with it properly and didn’t let it affect what he likes to do at home. In fact, spending an ample at home allowed him to discover new interest and made a lot of practice. He practically have no idea that it would be a start-up for his future. So he went into college for engineering major, however, taking his leap of faith, he dropped out of school and started over in culinary schools, when he realized that he has potential in that industry. Of course, he didn’t start easy. Having no significant source of income or experience, he worked very hard during internships, bought cooking books, went to multiple restaurants, seek knowledge from his chefs, all to hone his skills and bring his position to the world. As a result, he succeeded immaculately and able to run his own restaurant.

What I can learn from him is by not stopping at where I am at the moment, I would be able to succeed too. There’s so many things that I can do if I were to create my own success story. Taking lessons, finding informations, make connections, gain face-to-face knowledge, just to be better. And the most important thing is, Zia’s story thought me to always keep the passion of gaining more experience, and perseverance.

On the other hand, I got intrigued by Melanie Fox when she started talking about barriers. “If you keep thinking that you can’t overcome this barrier in your journey, then you just made the barrier permanent to yourself”. That’s an impressive way to be an AP micro and macroeconomics content creator of the prestigious Khan Academy. She keep reminding to find a way to get around those barriers in order to succeed.

I bet she went through so much more obstacles, but the way she handled her classes is important too. She took fewer classes to get more time concentrating on the areas she’s struggling with. Of course, she didn’t stop there. She also applied for summer classes, because she really wanted to focus on one particular class at a time. The result, she nailed her final exams, and she knew that she did well. The confidence, yes. How many of us felt that after taking our exams?

One thing she kept reminding was that it is okay to struggle! Struggling is better than not to struggle at all, because if we get through things easily, hitting the first barrier basically won’t bring us anywhere. This when you need to think of a way to push the barrier and get on the other side.

This reminds me of my first year, as I was struggling with Calculus. I was a bit insecure with the subject, as Advanced Mathematics was not really my forte since high school. However, like Melanie said, I found my way to overcome the situation, did tons of exercise, seek help from friends, getting fully prepared and yeah, it worked. And I’m totally glad it does. It just helps me believe that there’s nothing impossible in this world if you are really determined to prove that it can be done.

NISA IZZATI BINTI MAT ISA (A176546)

From the stories I watched, the interesting stories to me about Kelly Kramarik and Zia Sheikh

Story 1
What is interesting about the story is how Kelly Kramarik 25 years old can fall in love with music and bring him deeper into the world of music technology where he originally only loved music but kept him into the bigger music world. Interesting about this story is how Kelly recounted his not-so-easy career journey. Even though she is a graduate of a leading university yet no one looked at or took him to work. This is because Kelly has no experience. As such, she took graduate school for experience. From her story I can learn to maintain a relationship with the employer because we do not know the views of people towards us. Second that I learned from this story are do not be too shy in asking for knowledge.

Story 2
Interestingly this story is about how Zia Sheikh 35 years old used his childhood at home. This happened because of the racism of his childhood so he spent a lot of time at home. The challenge he faced was that he had to take an engineering class due to his late father who really wanted to see him in the world of science but he found that the world of science was not his favourite thing. What is interesting about him is that he uses the money he has to buy cook books to improve his skills. From this story I learn that money can be sought but experience or knowledge cannot be bought and can only be obtained by earnest.

Farah Nursyairah Binti Syaiful Azmil
A173468

From the videos that I've watched, I am really like and inspired by Paul Clifton the teacher, and Kelly Klamarik the audio engineer.

My dream is to become an English teacher since I was in the high school. I do really in love in teaching, and I want to associate myself teaching, sharing and encouraging my future students. I have thought that is teaching the career that you want to keep to the rest of your life? And my answer is always yes. Kelly has said that she founds the things that she loves, and she pursue it even though it's hard at first. But I see the genuine look of her, she really in love with her job even though her journey is hard and full of obstacles like, there's no one likes to hire her at first. But, her genuine passion help her to shine. Same goes to Paul, his love for teaching has helped him in pursuing what he always wants to do. True, taking the first step is always hard, we get nervous, and we can do mistakes at the beginning however, with our true passion, and doing what we love, can be the sole drive for us to at least improve and do better.

Revathy Suresh (A166169)

Based on the video I watched, all the stories have inspired me in a way. A story that inspired me the most is film director Olivia Abtahi and Khan Academy AP Economics content creator Melanie Fox,

First of all, Olivia's story had impact on me because she does not restrict herself to only focus o one thing. She could multitask as a director, editor ad also content organizer for a project she works on. The lesson from her story is no matter how difficult it seems to achieve her goals she did not give up at her training phase. Olivia started her career from the scratch and willingly did any kind of task given to her. Besides, she overcomes her challenges in her career by really knowing what is she doing and figuring out the real deal with her job and taking it seriously. Preparing her storyboards or figuring out her project details months before the project starts keeps her away from dealing last minute panicking which is a great thing to look into when it comes to big projects, in that way many uncertainties can be avoided. Olivia's plan ahead strategies and being passionate about her career can be taken in account for a greater life.

Other than that, Melanie Fox is also a great personality to follow. I liked where she started of with "well if you do not develop that mindset, I can't overcome this barrier the you just made it permanent for yourself", this is a very important thing to look at. Mindset is the main thing that supports our life's growth. If one stays and be so negative towards a barrier or in other word challenges in life then he/she would not be able to see a better life. Melanie have inspired me to be more confidence to overcome my barriers. Moreover, identifying our barriers and act accordingly to overcome it. I find this strategy of hers is a life saver because when one identifies his/hers problem they can concentrate to find ways to solve it respectively. Personally, as a student I would follow Melanie's strategy on overcoming my obstacles in studies.

Thank you.

Its like a dream for humanity. But I most inspired by Kelly Klamarik the Audio Engineer.

I really like her greed to learn multi-disciplinary in study related to audio. Her passion towards sounds and audio instrument really know no bound. also even after all of those hardworks and she cannot land a job as she wanted then worked as bartender really didn't fazed her dream. Then continually improved herself to pursue master study and relentlessly looking for studio that brave enough to take her in. From there, the rest is history.

To be honest, I am always fear that after my graduation I probably not gonna land on my dream job. I always had a wild thought what would I do if cannot pursue my dream ? Should I just give up and take whatever lies in front of me ?

Vilianty Bulan Jerome (A169577)

Two videos that captured my attention was Michael Novak, the dancer, and Olivia Abtahi, the film director.

I choose to talk about these two amazing people is due to the fact that I too, enjoy dancing and watching good films. It is because people like them who inspired others to do what they love doing in life.

Watching Michael explaining about his ups and downs somehow got me feeling a bit emotional. I might not be a professional dancer, but I was ever in his spot where intense training took place, and injuries happened. His explanation was carefully shared and the way he bounce back after quitting hits me right in my personal core.

Olivia, on the other hand, shares a crucial advice in advancing through life; which is to listen and receive more. This is definitely vital especially when one just started doing their intern or started working their first job. To dive into big oceans like that, one needs to start from the bottom, as one threads life is a slow and steady manner. Olivia also mentioned that one should not be restricted to unavailable equipment to make things happen. Like filming. If one already own a smartphone, then just go forth and start directing.

Olivia's advice reminded me of an advice from a literature lecturer. "Don't restrain yourself on how well you have to write. Just unleash your creativity and write."

These two videos definitely makes me ponder upon what my center is. Which is a good thing because knowing what my center is will help me to get to know myself better, and maybe ignite back the spark of motivation that was once lost.

Answer by: Muhammad Aiman Shukran Bin Mohamad Najib
Student No: A162691

The two story that caught my attention is from Paul Clifton and Lisa Lebracio. Paul is a 6th Grade Teacher Leader and Lisa is Ted-Ed Animation Direction. Paul shared that even though looking back he had literally prepared himself for teaching, took all the courses that was available but he still felt nervous, fear and lacking on his first day as a teacher. For Lisa, she shared how she pursued for her dreams and invested her time in the opportunities that allowed herself to develop herself with qualities and skills needed to be an animator.

Paul wonderfully said that during those challenging and doubtful times on yourself, those are always the best time for us to grow. Paul look at things in life in a different way and that doesn't mean that he is less emotional as a person. Lisa believed in herself and the dreams that she carries around with her, that allowed her to keep on pursuing the dreams and develop herself as that person.

Paul and Lisa portrayed themselves with courage and that's beautiful. Courage is an attribute that means a person feel fear and all the anxiety but choose to continue moving forward in such moments in life. Listening to Paul and Lisa stories, respectively, taught me an important lesson, one that I think everyone as person actually know deep in their heart, It's just that I, we often need a little push and moments to be encouraged to realize and believe that we can become so much more than we currently are.

Don't judge ourselves from where we are in life at any given moment, but instead look forward in time to look at ourselves and we'll see our value as a person. If we do that at times, we'll be able to get through tough times and present to ourselves and others the best version of us.

From all the videos I have watched, there is two video that caught my attention which is video from Michael Novak and Paul Clifton.

What caught my attention from Michael Novak video is the hardships he through to be as a dancer. The hardship he through at age 13 or 14 when he started to develop severe stutter. To overcome the stutter problem, he goes to speech therapy to regain back his ability to speak. Besides, he said that dance is a method for him to communicate and get out all the frustrations. So, in the age when he had stutter, he takes the initiative by dancing he can express his feeling and communicate. This story amuses me because he still goes trough the hardship and didn’t give up to be a dancer.

While the video from Paul Clifton, the thing that caught my attention is how he’s passionate about becoming a role model as a black male in the middle classroom. In the video, he said that at first day he had a feeling like nervous, scared and fear. So, he overcome that feelings by thinking that those feelings are the best thing as we grow up. I think as we grow up, we need to experience something that we scared of because when we frequently do that thing, we will naturally overcome the fear.

In conclusion, these stories give a huge impact for me on how to improve myself. To gain a success in my life, I must not give up on my path. I need to overcome or improvise all the hardship to reach my ambition. I believe that in every failure, there is success awaited if we didn’t give up.

Thank you.

Of all the stories that I have heard, the ones that piqued my interest is the story of Kelly Kramarik and Michael Novak.

Now, what caught my attention for Kelly Kramarik is her degree actually. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Multi-Disciplinary Studies, which is very very close to mine. Her whole course is about taking up 3 minors which make up her major. And I am currently taking my bachelor in Liberal Science where I take 1 major and 1 or 2 minors. What I relate to is the fact that she knows the degree won't market well with companies so it would be hard for her to get a head start. After floating around with no job for awhile, she decided to take a step back and went back to study her masters. This is what Kelly had in common with Michael Novak. They took a step back just to come out 2 steps forward.

For Kelly, she took a step back because she thought it would be good for her, career wise. And going back to school wouldn't do any harm anyway. For Michael on the other hand, he took a step back because he wanted to give up. But after studying back the basics and the history, he was reminded of why he chased his passion in the first place. This shows that sometimes, you just need to stop running forward and take a breather.

The saying keep running and don't look back sometimes may not be suitable for you. In my case, I have been struggling for quite awhile. Always worried about my future. Worried that I won't get far in life. Worried that I'll just get to a point in my life where I'm no longer moving forward. I'll be stuck or fall and fail. But these two reminded me that it's okay to feel this way. Other's are going through it too so I'm not alone.

What works for them is never stop learning and always try to improve yourself. Your effort and your skills will be recognized for what it is and you'll be fine. I'll be fine. And that brings me comfort.

Hijazida Hamdan (A167545)
