We started our GEEK OUT! We are in the brainstorming stage, but the kids have such innovative ideas! We love @ Wonderopolis. The kids are choosing WONDERS to discuss during transitions too. They told my about wooly worms and the legend of how they are used to predict if winter weather is coming. Some of the kids are wanting to create vlogs, others are coding their projects, etc. I loved learning from @gcouros .

I also plan on allowing the kids to use youtube to find videos on what we are learning about. This was one that I was nervous about the most and he really got me thinking, "why not!?" He was such a great speaker! It was very motivating! It's been so long since I have actually had the opportunity to see someone motivating. It's so important to keep from burning out!

I had no idea you could get a shareable link for Google Docs and then paste the link on a website. I have been having my students share ideas about their passion projects using this format. I am going to start the daily learning reflections on Monday. Plus, I'm going to have students record themselves explaining new concepts (especially in math), so students that are struggling or absent can watch them. I also am going to have students find their own videos on youtube. I really enjoyed learning from George Couros. He was an amazing speaker! He had so many great ideas!

I am working on letting go of the technology control in my classroom (afterall I"m sure they know more about technology than I do) . Today, I introduced Kidblog and we talked about technology use in the classroom. I have been using SeeSaw and Flipgrid but letting them have more student choice is my goal.
I will be having them tape one another on explaining/using math skills beginning next week.
I have found myself being more entergetic and stepping out of my own personal comfort zone the last 2 days. The comment about "Would You want to be a student in your own classroom?" hit me pretty hard and made me think...A LOT!!!!

I immediately thought about the LATE BUS kids. Some of them I have seen as invaders to our building at times. But you know what, they are just kids who have to wait an extra 40 minutes to get on a bus to go home. I feel sorry for them!!!
So today, I made an effort to have genuine conversation with them.

Today I let me kids free on YouTube 😳 To find the best video to teach attributes of shapes! I was terrified they’d see something they shouldn’t but they did great! There were heated debates about who’s was the best and why. In the end they all knew about vertices, faces etc. and were able to explain how many each shape had. I never even used those words or taught a thing. It was AWESOEM!!
