I read that 1 in 5 teachers knew that they wanted to teaching to be their profession right from the start. I was that 1 person that knew since I was in 6th grade that I wanted to be a teacher. I was caught between being a music teacher or being an elementary school teacher. She's a great speaker and very positive person. I think its so important that when you become an educator that you are in it for the right reasons and that you have to have the heart to teach and help the students to learn and grow. It’s more than just educating the children but also connecting, understanding and building relationships
. You have to have the passion so you can share that passion and turn it into a positive learning experience for them. You also have to be approachable, fun and treat them the way you wanna be treated.  Our mindset should always be “How can I turn my students from where they are to where they need to be?” Ms. Pierson also shared how raising a child’s self esteem can help their academic achievement.  Ms. Pierson is such an inspiration. In my hometown, this is not what I have seen. I am a firm believer that in order for learning to occur, the students need to be excited about what they are learning. I love that she is so honest about her struggle with math, yet she 'performed' the lesson with such enthusiasm, that the kids didn't mind relearning the subject. At the camp I counseled at this summer, I worked with 25 3rd grade boys for 40 hours a week, and I know how hard some of them struggle to do what is right. I also know how rarely people recognize their heart over their behavioral difficulties, and have seen how far a positive attitude and some kind words can take them. Ms. Pierson said that her mom's past students have said, "you made me feel like I was somebody when I knew at the bottom that I wasn't". That is what I aim to do as a teacher, and lies at the core of why I am entering this profession. I can only dream of one day being as amazing of a teacher as her. I loved how she was able to see the best in children even when they were unable to see it for themselves. She did everything she could do to excite the kids and show them that they are somebody and that they are capable of achieving amazing things. My favorite part of the video was when she put +2 on one of her childrens paper rather than putting -18. I think it would be a really hard task to decide what every kid in our nation should know. How would one group of people even know where to begin? Why doesn't curriculum vary between regions and cultures? There are many different cultures throughout America, who says they should all be taught the same things? It's all because of convenience, not because of the best interest in our kids. Why are politicians and policy makers the ones to decide? How about educators, curriculum majors or people with real experience? Why hasn't our country tried to make a drastic difference with our education? 
I recently read about Finland's new education system and it is unbelievable.
