It is used to protect us by giving laws for criminal and what is allowed and illegal. It is the law that gives fair punishments to those who have done crimes. It is made of 3 parts: Police, people whose job is to stop criminals doing bad things. Then they catch criminals and bring them to court. A court is a place where judges decide what happens to the criminal after their crimes. Such as what stealing a taco, what is their punishment? A last stage is a place keeping all the criminals safe. They are called prisons and are punished. Confining them in the place that is guarded by walls and police. They stay there until their punishment is done. (Up to Months to Years). Other criminals do jobs such as cleaning and lab our work. When they get out, they might not want to do bad things again because of the punishment.
If someone did something very bad, (Killing, Exploding, Bombing) and harming other people. They will be executed after a long time in prison, by an electric chair or a calm death by poison.

Incapacitation: This form of punishment moves criminals away from society. Solitary confinement, death penalty and house arrest (Prison in house).

2. Deterrence: This makes the criminal go by the rules of the law and deter from committing crimes again.

3. Fines: Making the criminal pay sums of money to further make them not commit crimes.

4. Confinement: The most common punishment, the criminal is locked away in a prison. A subsection is Solitary Confinement. It is for prisoners who can hurt or disrupt other prisoners. They are locked in a single bare cell, they don't meet anyone else and food is served in their small cell. Contraband and items are strictly governed. It is also meant for, murder, hostage-taking, deadly assault and rioting.

5.Death Penalty. This punishment is also called a execution and a death sentence. It is meant for serious offenders: murder, mass murder, terrorism, treason, espionage. It is also meant for capital offenders: piracy, drugs, war crimes, crimes against people and genocide (massacre). The criminal will be killed by varies different.t
