Consenses Fall Masterclass 2021 by Sally Taylor https://padlet.com/CONSENSES/7mqyg2y9fitmyght We seeded each of these chains with a "cataclysm sentence' inspired by a question the renown physicist Richard Feynman posed to his Cal Tech class in the 60s: "If in a certain cataclysm, where all of the scientific knowledge is to be destroyed, but only sentence is to be passed down to the next generations of creatures, what would be the best thing? The thing that contains the most information in the least number of words? Each participant in this fall Masterclass came up with their own statement which in tern, inspired someone else in the group to take a photo that represented their understanding of that sentence. Each piece of art that came after in each chain, represents a hand off of the baton in the human race. The next generation who takes the baton of our seed, reinterprets it and passes it on. Each time we teach a class we seed our hopes and dreams and goals for a better tomorrow into the fertile minds of our students with wisdom planted in us which we have in tern, reinterpreted and expressed in our own way. In this way knowledge it is a work of art that was started generations before the history of man began to be written. Just as our ancestors couldn’t predict how their wisdom would manifest in the next generation, neither can we can know where our knowledge will go and how they will be used and painted into future generations. Each of their photos below, were assigned to a different individual who interpreted the image and transformed it into a song. The songs changed hands and were turned into films. The films inspired sculptures which inspired poems normally in the curriculum the poems inspire paintings and finally each participant is given a completed "interpretive chain" to interpret and express as a set design but in this workshop we stopped with our poetry module. Sensation (Feeing inside or outside of body)The exhilaration of performing in front of an audience and the relief that comes after.  I’d sum it up as saying the sensation of the final bow.

Place: A playground at the end of the day

This sculpture would say in a deep but soothing voice:  “Trust me.  Everything is going to be okay.  It’s all connected, light and dark, feminine and masculine, good and bad…the light will prevail but there is not light without darkness.  Trust me.”
