Hans Selye identified stress into three stages known as "alarm, resistance, and exhaustion". Hans Selye is the founder of the stress theory. The theory that Hans Selye made states that an event that threatens an organism's well being leads to a three stage bodily response which is: Alarm, resistance, and Exhaustion. What Hans defined as stress was " The non specific response of the body to any demand for change"

Say im walking my dog and i see someone walking up on me and they have a gun pointed at me from down the street, The first thing that would happen would be the alarm stage i would start to have a flight or fight response i would either freeze up or begin to run away. The next stage would be the resistance i would either try to fight back when he got close or keep running from him avoiding the gun fire. The last stage would be the exhaustion stage i would have either fought the guy and won or lost the fight, either got away from running or got shot in the end i would be exhausted after everything.
