Blue. We chose blue as it not only represents the sad emotion, but also a spectrum of colour blue could be both light and dark, which represents how someone with depression, and they’re feelings fluctuation of feelings. The author also uses colors, and the motifs of light and dark to describe her emotions, and this feels as though with the only outlet for the author to represent her emotions, and she would not be able to do it in a binary way. The ambiguity of how depression can affect other individuals affects in different manners, where some individuals are affected more and others less. an analogy our group thought of was how would you describe a colour to a blind person. Without any concrete definition of a color, a blind person would be unable to understand what a different colour would mean to someone. How is how do we know that our blue is different than your blue or similar. depression mean different things for different people. Depression can be a difficult thing to quantize into words. It’s like explaining colour to a blind person. Depression is a complex emotion that means different things to different people and many people feel it.

Thé poem starts with new ideas and sections with what her mom says. This makes the conversation more prominent. When her mom speaks it seems like it is out loud but what the kid says is internal and not an answer.

The primary emotion that we felt was solitude and isolation. The character felt this way because her mom wasn’t understanding her because she didn’t have the same definition of depression as what the daughter felt. The mom’s lack of understanding is shown by how she constantly down plays her daughters feelings, which takes a toll on the daughter. This leads the character to feel frustrated because she doesn’t have an outlet. The use of anaphora emphasizes her plea for her mom to understand her. The metaphors used create imagery for the reader to better understand how the character feels. The character wanted her mom’s help because she too is confused about her depression as evidence from the lines “Mom still doesn’t understand / Mom! Can’t you see neither can I”.

We think the primary desperation/helplessness. Throughout the poem, the use of anaphora highlights how the character is pleading for a sense of connection. She is desperate for someone to talk to, Someone to listen to her. The repetition of the word “mom” shows that she desires a conversation, she needs help to figure out what she’s feeling because she can’t do it alone, yet she is.
