Jesus Villareal was journeying with two teenage boys, when they were threatened to be killed by Texas Rangers who were prying them to confess to a crime they did not commit. Eventually they were spared by the rangers. In this case they were the lucky ones. Hundreds of deaths have occurred along the Mexican-American border, at the hands of Rangers playing judge, jury, and executioner against both Mexicans and Mexican-Americans. Sourced from the article, "Untamed Border".

Yulian Yeimo was a 12-year-old boy who was beaten to death presumably by Indonesian soldiers before a human rights protest in Paniai, Papua in which 4 other teenagers were shot and killed, also presumably by soldiers. The protest was held to bring awareness to racial hate crimes against Papuans across Indonesia, and only proved the government's bias when those 4 teenagers were killed at the protest, along with dozens of others injured, of whom the government claims were shot by their fellow Papuans. A trial is finally being held 8 years after the tragic massacre.

In 2019, while attending a South African public school, Nathalie was severely beaten by a fellow student. The reason is that she was elected as her class monitor. Her fellow students beat her because they thought her foreigner was not worthy of being elected to such a position. Even after such an incident, the students still attended school, but she was reluctant to return to her school because of her fears.

https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/two-oklahoma-men-plead-guilty-racially-motivated-hate-crime
In this short article, there are two White men who are guilty for committing a racially motivated crime. The two plead guilty for physically assaulting a colored man and his friend, who is White. This ties into the other characters above because they were all victims of being assaulted just because of their race which is awful.

Japanese Americans

We learnt from the video, "The Shadow of Hate" about the paranoid, and xenophobic actions of the U.S government during WWII. After the U.S joined the war effort, our government designated internment camps to dump Japanese-Americans into. These people all had lives, businesses, possessions, all things they were forced to give up. The camps were overcrowded, boring, and mentally degrading, leading to sickness, and a number of suicides. The U.S even backtracked on their mistrust of Japanese-Americans, by allowing them to join the military later in the war.
This hypocritical decision shows the xenophobia and bias behind the existence of these camps. It feels as though the government used the war as an excuse to get rid of Japanese-Americans, but when they needed them to die for their country, then they were allowed to leave the camps. I can only imagine what it felt like to be a Japanese-American soldier fighting while your family is locked in a camp back at home.
-Luke Becker

The HHS enforces federal civil rights laws, and allows you to file complaints to the government about any abuse of these rights.

https://vote.utah.gov/
This next link is for Utah's government voter page. This is just an example, but voting and having a voice in who we as Americans put into power can have an impact on what actions are implemented by the government. Voting is a luxury that all American citizens have in this day and age, and it is a tool many others did not have, even as recently as the 1960s.

https://www.ftc.gov/policy-notices/no-fear-act/protections-against-discrimination
This link is for the Federal Trade Commission, and its many pages on rules and regulations regarding Employment and Opportunity.
