         <description><![CDATA[<div>I unpack all of my standards to create learning objectives and to guide all of my instruction, assessments and reporting to students and parents (sometimes with proficiency scales or similar skills checklists).  We do this by looking at the precise language of the standard and identifying the verbs and the level of rigor the standard is measuring. What do I want my students to learn? How will I know they've learned it? What do I do if they don't learn it? What do I do if they already know it? </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Unpacking standards "peels back the curtain" for students making their own learning objectives clear, as well as narrows the focus for teachers, making what we are required to teach more clear and attainable. We often teach much more than we need to (and not much to mastery) because we're following a prescribed pacing guide from a program, instead of really understanding what our students are required to learn according to our standards. Knowing our standards well allows us the time and precise progressions to teach to mastery,  instead of just following lessons in a program manual. </div>]]></description>
