Firstly, we must get to know the person,in this case,the roommate,in a deeper way, for instance consider talking about your rotine,habits,interests and lifestyle,it would make things clearer.
Secondly, it is always good to know,how much space she/he needs, and the other way round, because everybody needs a time off, to study,read or even just be quiet on the bed.
Thirdly,both roommates must be understanding,helpful and organazed,in summary, they've to team-up with each other.
