Sport in Portugal is an important point in the country's culture, where football stands out as the most popular sport, although there have been many other important modalities and winners of several medals in professional and amateur level championships. 
Some of these sports are roller hockey, popular in Barcelos (18 km from Braga), badminton, handball, canoeing, volleyball, athletics, basketball, swimming and gymnastics, judo, among others.
