World War 2 loosened the hold on imperial powers and the British noticed this and tried to steer Nigeria towards a self governance model. Despite now being free, there was still a conflict as the group that came to power (NPC) was largely Muslim and the group that opposed it (NCNC) were the Christians and Igbo. </div>]]></description>
