And they eat corn BUT they use sweet berries to make it better. they also scream at the crows, they think of it like a scare crow! My question is that how long it would take to make their hut or clothes. And I think it would be fun if I lived like that for a day!

From the first map I learned that the captain was named Christopher and he was a skipper. On the Mayflower the Pilgrims could hardly breathe. There was a sudden autumn storm that sent one of the passengers off board but luckily the person hung on to a rope to survive, the storm also effected the Mayflower's route and originally they were headed to Virgina but they had to go to the now called Plimoth. The trip lasted 65 days and with the winter upon them they declared that the Plimoth would be where they would stay
From the map of the Wampanoag territory 1620. I see that the territory is now called Massachusetts. I notice that the Wampanoag had many of these original names wiped off like Nauset to Salem.

Wampanoag actually means "people of the first light'' many people have started to call them "people of the first light'' because they were the Indigenous people of what we now call southeast Massachusetts and eastern Rhode Island. The Wampanoag have taken care of this land nicely and have fished, planted, harvested crops, and hunted. In the 17th century the Wampanoag territory expanded from Grafton, Massachusetts to the southeastern corner of Rhode Island, it was also across Cape Cod Bay. The Wampanoag life was focused on giving food and shelter for families and having peaceful villages. Many leaders made the Wampanoag Nation strong.

The Pilgrims celebrated Thanksgiving because of their religion. They celebrated it by prayer and not by feasting.Thanksgiving's stem came from a feast in autumn in 1621, the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag were the ones celebrating the colony's first ever successful harvest.Only ten months after arriving at plimoth, the pilgrims had built seven houses. Getting meat ment that you had to kill the animal yourself, ducks were the main target for meat.Pilgrim women would put the ducks right over the open fire. Kids would help by grinding corn for some porridge or corn oatmeal.King Massasoit arrived to the feast. The pilgrims would've not survived if it wasn't for the help of the Wampanoag and King Massasoit.Massasoit was a sachem (meaning leader) and his birth name was Ousamequin. As a gift Massasoit sent his people to give deer to the Pilgrims. The first Thanksgiving did not include Turkey, cranberry sauce,or even mashed potatoes. Instead they had duck, venison, seafood, cabbage, onions, corn, and squash. The meals were eaten for the whole week and it was eaten inside and outside. The Wampanoag had to build there own shelter when they went for the harvest because the Pilgrims didn't have enough time to build cover for the Wampanoag people. The Wampanoag and the Pilgrim kids

I learned that all boys who were 16 to 60 years old needed to be in the militia. A militia is a group of people who are kind of like an army or military but not officially an army. The giant wood hammers used with wedges to split wood are called beetles. The wooden handles of the tools were made in Plimoth, whilst the majority of the iron heads they brought with them to America on the Mayflower. The act of building a roof with dried plants; such as weeds and grasses; is called thatching. The interior walls of the cottages are made out of clay that was dug out of the ground. Having gardens was very important for the pilgrims because the things they grew in their gardens helps keep the food they eat delicious and certain things in the gardens can keep people happy and healthy. For example, a herb that can clean your teeth is called sage.

In 1620 violent waves started pushing the mayflower. the pillagrams are to groups. their plan was to ships mayflower and speedwell. they arrived in north america and it was still warm but they were turned back because the speedwell had a leak so people packed in the mayflower but the mayflower was built for cargo not for people. 120 people and including 30 children were packed some were to tall so they had to lay down. Some people started getting homesick. In the 3,020 mile a sailor and young boy died. after 11 months they arrived in cape cod which is now massachusetts. the wampanoag signed a treaty agreed on being allies

What I notice so far is that their clothes are made out of some sort of animal hide. I also see that they live in a wetu, made out of bark and branches.
They pick berries to make tea and go on the river on a mishoon, a canoe.
I am wondering if the Wampanoag helped the settlers that came to their land?

From the first map that showed the journey of the Mayflower I learned about how the ship traveled from England across the Atlantic Ocean.

From the map Territory of the Wampanoag: Circa 1620. I see that there are _______

The Wampanoag are known as:
People of the East
People of the Light
People of the First Light
This is because they are on the east coast of the US and they see the sun rise before other people. Here in Seattle we are three hours behind them and see the sun later in the day.
Also, they eat a lot of food from the ocean. They fish for clams, muscles, and fish.

What I notice so far is that im pretty sure they kill or shave animals to get their fur to sleep in . And they eat corn BUT they use sweet berries to make it better. they also scream at the crows, they think of it like a scare crow! My question is that how long it would take to make their hut or clothes. And I think it would be fun if I lived like that for a day!

What I notice so far is that they build little houses called wetus out of tree bark, branches, and other stuff like that. Did the Wampanoag have their own language or did they share their language with another tribe?

Looking At Maps And Understanding Place
From the first map I learned that the ship they sailed on was called the Mayflower, and it was the year 1620. They were out at sea for 65 days. There was a passenger on the Mayflower, and he almost fell of, but he got rescued. The captain of the ship's name was Christopher Columbus. The Mayflower was heading for Virginia, where the passengers planned to settle, but they got caught in a storm and actually landed in an area called Cape Cod.

Research Day 1: Wampanoag And The First Thanksgiving
