My maternal family is Argentine and Mexican. I spent most of my childhood at my grandma and grandpa's house growing up, and there is where I was exposed to my culture the most. California is the 3rd state with the most Spanish speakers. In fact, 28 percent of the population of California speaks Spanish. I believe Latino culture has and will always be an important part of American culture and society.

I was born in Southern California and grew up in a typically American way. The city I grew up in was rich with different cultures. Although there were Latino kids at my school, I always felt a disconnect. I always thought that I had to look and be a certain way to be considered Latino. I remember taking school exams and when we had to mark our race/ethnicity. My teachers would never let me mark Latino/Hispanic because I was white I knew who I was and I'd always be dismissed when I tried to explain. My mom was discouraged from teaching me Spanish by my teachers. There was prejudice back then and I still believe there still prejudice now.

I was raised Roman Catholic. In California, the most prominent is Roman Catholic. While there is a lot of others and I've known many who were different religions. Since moving to Utah, I don't see much of the religions I saw in California. I've only met one person my age who is Roman Catholic. I've always felt like a stranger in Utah. Comparing Utah and California. In Utah, there's an LDS church in every neighborhood. Whereas the nearest Catholic church is 30 minutes away. In California, the nearest Catholic church from where I used to live was only 7 minutes away.

When I was younger, I liked dressing up as both a girl and a boy. Though, I remember wearing girly clothes after a time that made me feel uncomfortable. I switched to wearing more boyish-looking clothes. I was really content with it till I started puberty. I started feeling ugly compared to the other girls, although that didn't change my fashion sense. It changed how I dressed a little; I started wearing regular bras instead of sports bras, I wore more feminine jeans and shirts. I was still unhappy; I like feminine things, and I like masculine things. When I started college, I discovered many things about myself, I discovered I was demisexual, and I got to experience being a non-binary person. It's still a confusing journey; although I don't feel like I'm a non-binary person, I don't necessarily feel like one or the either. I just allow myself to experience my feminine days and my masculine days. I don't feel like I have to prove who I am anymore.
