I'm glad we had a chance to visit a school in Guadeloupe today. The kids gave us a warm welcome with their music concert and singing. They were really good at it. I know that we were not only the audience during their performance but also a proof that the outside world is so close. Our presence proved that Poland, the UK, Greece and Germany are not just names on the map, but real places with real people. And it helped the students realize that they have a particular important place in the world as well.
It was good to see what their school and timetable look like. They aren't that different from what we have at home. The interaction with the students was also nice. I wish I could speak French to communicate better.
The visit made me realize that even small schools like this can internationalise their curriculums and help their students be more aware of other cultures.

Today we could visit a primary school. There are differences and similarities which could be noticed just at the first visit. The pupils greeted us with music and were really interested in getting in contact with us. The teachers were also open-minded, let us have an insight into their daily work, talked to us about their work and asked questions about the situation in our countries. So there was a lively discussion during the lunch break. I have had a lot of new experiences and am glad to have seen this school with its teachers and pupils.

ETwinning Report: 11.1.2019

Place: school in Les Abymes

The faces of pupils are always the same even in elementary school in Guadeloupe: interesting or sad. We were received by the music class of the school. Brilliant to see the uniforms and skills of playing local and well known european songs. After they showed us the school building we followed a lesson of french and maths. There were just 12 pupils in the class room. The school system is the same as in France. The atmosphere in the classroom ist different to Germany: The teachers are stricter and the pupils are less active and the teacher is more dominant. It is a very nice idea for my school to have a lunch with a lot of collegues together so that we could change information about our school system or everyday life. I‘m always glad to speak to pupils and to realize that they are thinking all in the same way. :)

School visit les Abymes

Today we visited a primary school in les Abymes. The teachers and the pupils welcomed us singing beautiful songs and playing music. We also visited aclass and attended the lesson. The pupils had to write a diary. It's amazing how students around the world are alike. They asked the same questions a greek pupil would have asked.
As far as the French educational system is concerned , I think it emphases on the authority of the teacher and stresses on analytical thought.
As our world is internationalizing at a rapid speed, school has to prepare the global citizens. Children who come into contact with the international community improve their social skills and broaden their minds.

What can be more interested for a school teacher than visiting a school in another country! Learning about their work, curriculum, discipline, daily problems, looking at their classrooms and interacting with pupils and teachers. Sharing the best practices is a very powerful way of personal improvement!
My observations today: children are happy to learn with happy teachers who can step down from their authoritative platform and engage with the pupils helping to solve their life or death problems, supporting and developing their talents and providing real life experiences, such as our little visit!
And here is my solution : sharing my happiness and joy for life and learning, I hope to make everyone around me just a little bit happier!

School visit

A warm welcome was given by all today at the elementary school. On arrival, we were greeted by lots of excited children. Our presence for them, would hopefully be educational as they met people from 4 different countries. For us, as visiting teachers, it was the chance to learn more about school life and the curriculum in Guadeloupe.

On arrival at the school, we were welcomed by a special musical performance. Music is a strength of the school and I enjoyed listening to the children playing on the keyboards, recorders and guitars. The children played competently and from memory. What a wonderful start to the day! The staff at the school were very friendly, giving time to us and willing to answer questions. Through discussion with the staff, it was evident that the challenges the school face are similar to those in England, particularly relating to healthy eating. As we talked with staff, it was interesting to compare and reflect on the teaching in the 2 countries. The school in Guadeloupe has a broad and balanced curriculum. This is the same in England, but due to national tests, some year groups struggle to keep hold of the balance. In some ways, the schools were similar, but in other ways quite different. Class sizes were smaller, they don't have national tests, they don't have interactive whiteboards, or displays on the wall. Time is given for staff training every Wednesday, so school is closed. As we talked with the staff we also compared and contrasted amongst ourselves as a group. It was interesting to compare the schools in Germany, Poland, Greece and the UK.

11th January, Primary School Day
Today we visited a primary school in Guadeloupe. We were received with a concert that showed the musical of the school. The students were proud of their performance in front of an international audience. The lessons showed me the classical lessons in France, which deviates from the lessons at our school. Interesting for a German-French comparison. The lunch together with the French colleagues, all of them very open and communicative, took place in a pleasant atmosphere as part of an intercultural exchange.
Finally a revision of the last lessons of our training cours took place. For me, the focus on the school partnerships within the KA 2 projects was very helpful. I got the first feedback about a possible partnership so that the individual skills can help me to formulate the application.
An instructive day for working at our school.
