Metaphor-a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable. " I'm on a roller coaster that only goes up..." (Green 11) I think this metaphor that Augustus meant that he was already high in life and  that he wouldn't go any lower. Also whenever Augustus was about to die he said that metaphor again. When he said that metaphor he could mean that once he goes up he won't come back down because he has died.
