This quote shows how they over time have turned into savage people. Now they have their chant for when they kill a pigs which, shows how they are worried about just hunting.

Piggy says this to Ralph during one of their meetings. Piggy is really supportive of keeping a signal fire going, and concentrating on their rescue. He sees the boys future of violence long before the others. In this part of the chapter he pleads with his listeners to remember their civilization back home.

This is significant because the boys are fighting over leadership. "They agreed passionately out of the depths of their tormented private lives.” This is showing how the characters can relate to each other. They all agreed passionately and this shows how they can all relate their tormented private lives with each other.. The boys have some relations to each other although they do not show it very much.

“Simon was crying out something about a dead man on a hill… The sticks fell and the mouth of the new circle crunched and screamed. The beast was on its knees in the center, its arms folded over its face. It was crying out against the abominable noise, something about a body on the hill… At once the crowd surged after it, poured down the rock, leapt on to the beast, screamed, struck, bit, tore. “
This shows how blinded with fear the boy are in regards to the beast. Since Jack has nourished and kept the fear of the beast alive and growing, the boys do arent even hesitant to believe that this figure they saw could be one of their own and instead start biting and tearing into Simon, unfortunately killing him, further growing their savage like character.

Now out of the terror rose another desire, thick, urgent, blind.

This quote is significant because it demonstrates the devolution of the  boys over time. Initially the boys were worried about hunting and even jack an his hunters had hidden fears of hunting and killing the beast. At this point in the story they've taken on this much less innocent and more vile mob mentality as they chant about killing the beast. Even more savage than ever as they seem to be killing the beast less for safety and more for sport now by chanting "cut his throat! spill his blood!".
