I love his versatile capabilities and being able to create a song in a completely different genre than the last that can still pull your emotions in the same way.

Joyner Lucas is an extremely skilful rapper, songwriter and producer. In my opinion he is one of the best lyricists and storytellers to have ever touched a mic. The way he can tell a story through his lyrics and visuals in music videos I believe is almost unmatched in the music industry.

Blink-182 are the reason as to why I started listening to rock and I believe they are one of the most influential rock bands of all time. On MGKs last 2 albums it is clear that he has drawn immense amounts of inspiration from Blink-182 whilst also having Travis Barker(Blink-182s Drummer) as the drummer for both albums.

DMX’s aggressive rapping style can contain lyrics that vary from hardcore to graceful instantly, which I believe is why MGK is highly influenced by him because of his versatility. MGK states on a short video from his documentary for his first debut album “lace up” that DMX is the reason he started rapping in the first place (RG Films, 2012).

Lil Wayne has effortlessly impeccable wordplay, a very distinctive voice and extremely clever metaphors that will make you really think about each bar. MGK states in his latest documentary where he had Lil Wayne feature on his album “we’re just kinda sitting there amazed, like, that’s the G.O.A.T. forming his thoughts around a track that we made.” (Sam Cahill, 2022).

Will Smith

Joyner Lucas mentions in his single ‘Will’ (Joyner Lucas, 2020) that he learnt alot from Will and that he is his idol, also mentioning that he found motivation from Wills speech on building a wall (Jayson taylor, 2018).
