         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Shené Stassen 23687126&nbsp;</strong></div><div><strong>Subject: Natural Science&nbsp; <br>Grade: 4<br>Goal: 6: Clean water and sanitation. </strong><br><br><br>I will be selecting Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation. I will introduce this in the subject: Natural Sciences gr 4, as this subject focuses on life. According to the CAPS document for grade 4 Natural science, one of the main themes are Life and living things. The theme of Clean water and sanitation can be introduced either in the first term when Life and living things are the topics of discussion, as it focuses on conditions for life. This topic could also be addressed in the fourth term when the topic of discussion is: The Planet Earth- where all the different aspects of the earth are being discussed including habitats and life cycles. Water is one of the most important factors for life and without water, all things would die. Clean water is thus also very important as it serves as a habitat for various living organisms. These habitats can thus, be destroyed if the water was polluted. Natural water sources also serve as a supplier for households. These are thus the points that will be addressed when speaking about the 6th goal that is Clean Water and Sanitation.&nbsp;<br><br></div><div>&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>GOAL 15: LIFE ON LAND<br></strong><br></div><div>Life on Land to help protect the Earth’s ecosystems, promote the sustainable management of forests, and put a stop to land degradation and biodiversity loss, this is part of Natural science and I would introduce this topic to my grade 5 class. This goal aims to conserve all forms of life on land, from humans through to every last insect. It is of utmost importance that I as teacher bring it under my learner’s attention how important it is to do small things like for example, recycling, volunteering for clean-ups in the community, saving water,ect, to protect the Earth’s ecosystems.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>We will also discuss how focusing on protecting forests and other natural habitats, can not only ensure that wildlife thrive, but people around the world can also benefit from improved living conditions as the environment becomes healthier. Environmental issues can intensify challenges in communities, such as <a href="https://www.gviafrica.co.za/blog/what-is-food-security-and-what-can-i-do-to-help-achieve-it/">food insecurity</a>. The loss of forests can also make it harder to ensure the well-being of all the people living in an area, and to disrupt cycles of poverty.</div><div>For Life on Land to be successful – many of the related targets, such as halting deforestation and restoring degraded forests, were set to be completed by 2020. And so, even more focused and effective conservation efforts are necessary. We as a classroom will do a project each year to help save Life on Land by planting a tree. By doing this project, it won’t necessary help save life on earth but it will help educate our learners, and so the future generation, to be aware and to help do something about this problem.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Judy Vermeulen 24263222<br>Natural Science<br>Grade 4<br>Goal 13: Climate Action</strong><br><br>Climate Action is such an essential part of natural science and I would thus introduce this topic to my grade 4 class. The current change in climate is causing panic as well as a global crisis. This is due to the ever-present change in the weather pattern that not only affects the rising sea levels, but the rise in natural disasters as well. Climate action is becoming a global priority, even claiming the 13th&nbsp; Global Goal for&nbsp; the United Nations. It is thus of utmost importance that we educate all students to lessen their carbon footprint and become more responsible of their actions if we want to be sustainable and protect what we have for the generations to come. Engaging into this topic would be easy as it easily fits into the natural science curriculum when discussing sustainability, greenhouse gasses, global warming etc. As forming&nbsp; part &nbsp; of this &nbsp; subject, we would &nbsp; discuss the&nbsp; negative&nbsp; effect&nbsp; of &nbsp; the rise&nbsp; in &nbsp; the temperature of the earth, the change in climate and the threats it holds. We would further engage &nbsp; in &nbsp; interactive &nbsp; discussions &nbsp; on &nbsp; how &nbsp; to &nbsp; better &nbsp; equip &nbsp; ourselves &nbsp; and &nbsp; our &nbsp; home environments to reduce our carbon footprints by example the short rhyme of: “re-use, reduce and recycle”. Acting in the fight against the rising climate better educates our learners and creates &nbsp; better &nbsp; citizens &nbsp; of &nbsp; the &nbsp; world. &nbsp; Environmental &nbsp; education &nbsp; thus &nbsp; realizes &nbsp; once &nbsp; the knowledge is transferred from the teacher towards the students as they are made aware of the consequences their actions have. They are educated not only according to their curriculum, but also to better understand the world we live in and how to protect by being well informed on the topic.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Die produksie van lewe onder water sal ek as volg vir my klas verduidelik:<br>Wat bedoel word met produksie onder water het betrekking soos ons oseaanlewe, met ander woorde ons moet seker maak dat deur die aksies wat ons doen moet ons nie ons seelewe beskadig nie. Goed wat ons in alle daagse lewe doen of stowwe waarvan ons gebruik maak het sonder dat ons dit weet ‘n invloed ons seelewe. ‘n Voorbeeld van dit is soos die gebruik van plastiek strootjies. Plastiek is baie skadelik vir see lewe omdat dit eerstens nie afbreekbaar is deur ons ekosisteme neem en vat tot 100de jare om dan eventueel af te breek indien dit ooit sou. Die stootjies veral is baie log en waai maklik in die see in en wat gebeur dan is dat see diere die strootjies eet omdat hulle dink dis kos. Hierdie maak dat diere dan sterf omdat hulle nie plastiek kan verteer nie. Strootjies beinvloed veral seeskilpaaie. Hierdie kan maak dat die seeskilpaaie as ‘n spesie kan uitsterf en dit lei na ‘n ekosisteem wat gebreek word (soos die voedselkeingloop word gebreek) en dit maak dat daar ‘n oormaat van visse is wat hulle geneig is om te eet en die spesies wat van hulle af voed sterf uit ondat hulle voedsel bron weg is. Hierdie kan lei na oorpopulasie van hierdie visse wat hulle geneig is om te eet in die see en dat al die suurstof opgebruik word in die see en dan veroorsaak dit talle ander sterftes in seediere.Die produksie van lewe onder water word nou soos julle kan sien erg beinvloed op ‘n baie negatiewe manier. Dit is net een van die kwessies maar daar is talle meer. Ons moet oor die algemeen plastiek verbruik verminder en seker maak ons vullis word op n veilige manier van onstlae geraak.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Grade 4<br>Goal 7: Affordable and clean energy.</strong><br><br>Ensuring universal access to affordable electricity by 2030 means investing in clean energy sources such as solar, wind and thermal. Renewable energy is useful energy that is collected from natural sources like water, wind, rain, tides, waves and sunlight, is less harmful to the environment than fossil fuel and crude oil. These renewable resources are naturally replenished on a human timescale. The use of fossil fuels have a visible, negative impact on our climate change across the whole world because of the increase of greenhouse gas emission.&nbsp;<br>There is a lot of countries with access to clean energy such as Iceland, Sweden and Finland. In this countries power from new renewables is now cheaper than power from new fossils. Installing the infrastructure needed for the raise of power by natural sources is expensive but over a long term it will be cheaper than fossil fuels. The fundamental driver of this change is that renewable energy technologies follow learning curves, which means that with each doubling of the cumulative installed capacity their price declines by the same fraction.<br>If a country can only make use of natural, renewable sources and no fossil fuels, this country would not make use of mines to mine coal. When mines no longer exist, the amount of water pollution, soil pollution and air pollution will decrease. Global warming will also decrease because there is no longer a big amount of carbon released into the air.<br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>25454064<br>Grade 5:<br>Goal 2: Zero Hunger<br><br></strong>The Global Goal of Zero Hunger, aims to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture. It is important that schools teach their students about Zero Hunger, because they are after all the generations who can make changes and improve the world-wide&nbsp; hunger issues. This SDG is a&nbsp; important part of Environmental Education, as it is a way in which we, as teachers, can educate people and teach them how to improve this problem, and eventually fix it.<br>I would incorporate Zero Hunger into my Natural Science class, by integrating it into the curriculum. It can be incorporated into lessons about sustainable agriculture and farming,&nbsp; as well as how to use food sustainably.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
