Sometimes, those who tell lies to their spouses defend their deceit by saying that it was done to keep the relationship harmonious and safeguard the other person's feelings. Such people frequently experience the conviction that occasionally telling the truth can result in unneeded suffering and weaken the emotional connection between couples. The Malayalam film Aayirathonnu Nunakal (1001 Lies), which explores these characteristics of lies and secrets to raise challenging concerns about the sacrifice of truth necessary to establish and preserve relationships, is based on such moral conundrums. The movies do have certain scenes that are worth watching, but they don't have a strong narrative that ties their investigation of ethical dilemmas together. The film's plot is set in the United Arab Emirates, and the dramatic action takes place during a gathering of friends who rely on one another in times of need. A fire starts in the residential complex. Salma (Shamla Hamza), Mujeeb (Sajin Ali), Sowmya (Anusha Shyam), and Rajesh (Sudeep Koshy), who were residing in the now-burned-down building, therefore temporarily moved to their friend Divya's (Ninin Kassim) and Vinay's (Vishnu Agasthya) large home. It is revealed during dinner that Vinay and Divya will celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary the following year. The friends' group has decided to enjoy it with a shared acquaintance. Alina (Vidhya Vijaykumar), Joffy (Noufal Rahman), Bency (Rashmi K Nair), and Elwin (Sooraj K Nambiar), along with their lawyer friend Vakeel (Sudheesh Scaria), all drop by. They all agree to play a game in which each person tells a lie they have been keeping from their partner for a very long time as Vakeel devises a strategy to liven up the evening. Although the game starts out with a positive attitude, as the revelations get more serious, things swiftly turn grim. Certain relationships can be strengthened by certain revelations while being broken by others. The group begins to form misgivings about one another as the crisis worsens. As secrets start to come out, tensions grow as the flimsy façade of seemingly ideal relationships is revealed.

The usage of fire as a representation of trust and the desire to believe in a partner throughout the movie mirrors the characters' erratic emotional states and serves as a metaphor for the negative effects of mistaken faith, which heightens the drama in the plot. The fire's suppression brings the buddies together and establishes the film's storyline.
