In " When a planet is not a planet " the purpose of the story is that Pluto became a planet but over the years people decided that Pluto shouldn't be a planet because of Pluto's size was smaller than other planets so scientists decided that Pluto should be a dwarf planet

In the text,'' When is a planet not a planet'' The author uses cause and effect. I know this because the author uses the words'' Cause'' and '' Because.'' The authors text is about her trying to tell us that Pluto is not a planet anymore. I know this because in the text it says,'' To be a planet you need to orbit the sun, is round or nearly round, because its gravity has pulled it into that shape, and, is big enough and has enough gravity to clear the neighborhood around its orbit and Pluto does not follow those steps so that means it is not a planet ,''However, on August 24, 2006, the IAU, a group of individual astronomers and astronomical societies from around the world, made an announcement. They declared that Pluto was not a planet.''

I know this its cause and effect because of this evidence "Because" and "caused" in pages 409 and 414. the reason she wrote "When is a planet not a planet" was because she wanted to inform us on why pluto isn't a planet anymore. This shows that pluto didn't meet all 3 criterias which are 1. orbiting the sun 2. is round or nearly round and 3. is big enough and has enough to "clear the neighbor hood. Pluto didn't meet the last criteria so scientis declared that pluto is a dwarf planet.

In When a Planet Is Not a planet The Authors purpose of writing this story is to tell us about how Pluto is no longer a planet. The text structures cause & effect. I know this because on page 414 it says, "Many are caused by some kind of flaw in the telescope camera". And on page 415 it says, "Because scientist's always check and recheck...And the cause of Pluto not being a planet was it was too small to be a planet so according to the IAU the effect was Pluto not being a planet because of it being too small to be a planet.
