(Chart paper is powerful!) Sometimes it just takes a little bit of extra time for students to think, process, and organize their thoughts into words that they can then share with the rest of the class. It made me realize how important discussion is. The students got to share their thoughts and thinking with others and bounce ideas off of each other. They learned to listen to each other and then explain why they agreed or disagreed.
