Challenging neoliberalism via posthuman ethics of care by Guy Huber https://padlet.com/p0011766/7lqdxmlxbid8qhwi This PDW seeks to engage critically with the notion of neoliberalism (Brown, 2019) and the individualization that it promotes. In particular, we are concerned about the way in which even within CMS, identity has often been taken for granted and the notion of identity work is drawn upon almost as a therapy for the contemporary condition (Gill, 2015). There is a danger that this literature might encourage an attachment to and dependence upon identities that privilege autonomy over community and individual success over collective wellbeing (Knights and Clarke, 2017). In doing so, the possibilities of engaging collaboratively with others in seeking productive pathways towards more ethical forms of life are severely restricted. Others have avoided this danger by invoking an embodied ethics that eschews the instrumental individualism underlying the identity work literature (Pullen & Rhodes, 2008). As an alternative, we subscribe to a view of posthuman subjectivities that are plural, relational, precarious and in constant creative evolution. The dialogical dynamics of ‘intra-action’ (Barad, 2007) that underpin such posthuman subjectivities emphasize not only the interdependence of intra-actors, but also their mutual entanglements in the simultaneous processes of mattering and meaning that bring our shared existence into being.
