When our book discusses the concept of globalization, it offers a much broader spectrum. The reading teaches us about the ideas of increasing cultural understanding and embracing the thought of the theory of comparative advantage. This article relates to the broad spectrum but is intentionally more detailed. I enjoyed this article because it takes all the knowledge from our reading and puts the tools to use is a real time situation with an actual company. This article allows us to understand the opportunities available when efficiently and effectively going global.

The theory of comparative advantage starts with the observation that different areas of the globe have different natural economic advantages. This theory is a key concept to being successful in globalization. This article builds on this objective in the way that although every area of the globe is one of a kind it is important to stay true to your companies mission, vision, and values. Martin Reiss explains how every client expects a quality solution to a specific challenge but they must stick to their project management standards. They strive to provide consistent quality performance by adhering to "best practice" project management standards. This taught me a different angle of globalization. I can see how it would be very easy getting caught up in all of the different environments and situations that it would be easy to lose the meaning of your business and its purpose in the globalization business. Martin advises that each business going global needs to adapt to local requirements, but the basic attention to quality standards should never vary.

The growth of globalization also means the growth of competition with highly educated individuals. The following quote, "It is crucial that we as individuals and as a country rise to the challenge of globalization with renewed investment in the future through education, research, and innovation.", reminds us how important it is to be investing in the future and our education system so that we can keep up with the competition that globalization possesses.

How does the article add to the understanding of the objective? Relationship to the Objective.
The article “Globalization and its Impact on a Women: A Critical Assessment,” is related to the objective on the challenges of globalization and the solution to those challenges in that it discusses a similar topic of inequality that exists in the United States, that being gender inequality. Gender inequality can be defined as women and men are not considered equal. This article builds on the objective in a similar direction in that gender inequality has made strides in the right direction, however, it still exists. Although more jobs are being created as businesses move to underdeveloped countries where women have more opportunity for employment, they remain in labor intense production positions. Chihibber states that by being producers, women are subjected to exploitation through low wages, poor working environments, unstable employment, and the right for representation. (2009) According to Chhibber, globalization has had a mixed effect on women in developing countries. (2009) On one hand, it has opened opportunities for women to become more independent but these opportunities are seen in the more liberal countries opposed to the patriarchal societies whereas men are holding all of the power. (Chhibber, 2009) Another area of similarity regarding this objective is the responsibility women play in and outside the homes. Globalization has not really changed the responsibility of a women in their roles as mother, wife, and worker. Women continue to function as the primary undertaker to these three roles.

Works Cited
Chhibber, B.

In my current environment, the gender inequality that I witness is in occupational segregation. Although more women are moving in to higher positions in the medical field all leadership roles and surgeons are males in our division. There is one exception, a female physician within our division who does not hold any leadership nor is she a surgeon. The other concerning factor is that all mid-level positions (Certified Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants) are held by females. At one time, there was a female surgeon who was part of the division who later voiced she was “pushed” out of her position because she was a woman. To further complicate the situation, the individuals in these leadership roles are from one cultural background.

Nationalism is having patriotic feelings, principles, or efforts for ones country. Nationalism oftentimes puts its citizens above everything else, leading companies to shift their business elsewhere. The article discusses how nationalism will avoid exploiting citizens from its own country, but globalization has shown no problem with exploiting and using citizens from another country. We need to shift away from nationalism to more successfully incorporate globalization. The article ends by saying that nationalism is only slowing globalization down.

Our shop provided customers with wedding gowns, prom dresses, and tuxedo's. Every January, we would get our shipments of prom dresses in. Most of the dresses were from designers located in the U.S. but they were mostly made in China. At the same time that the shop got the most influx of sales is around the same time that China would be entering into their New Years celebration. These celebrations typically lasted for a few weeks. As a result of this, our shop could not order special made dresses as they would not be made in time. It is important that companies be aware of where they choose to have their products made.

Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to experience globalization first hand. I hope to work for a company in the future so I can further my knowledge and utilize the skills I have learned to actively support the globalization process. In my early years of college, I worked for a company called The Buckle. The Buckle is a clothing store targeting young adults with the newest and upcoming fashions. Although The Buckle has not gone global they are 465 store locations throughout the United States. I realize the diversity is not to the extent of globalization but there were several business practices I did learn from this company. By attending several business meetings and conferences I learned how The Buckle was able to diversify its stores and adjust to different locations in order to accommodate people's needs. They have been able to become one of the countries favorite denim destination by staying true to their mission of creating the most enjoyable shopping experience for the customer. These lessons of increased efficiencies of business adapting to different areas would be a basic fundamental used when working for a company going global. I know that I have a lot more to learn and experience to gain but I hope to learn the basics of expanding business in my future roles of a company providing business worldwide.

I have learned how areas with competitive advantages have been experiencing unparalleled economic growth, triggering major opportunities. Our book has covered how globalization has had major effects on the power relationships that exist among nations, and between groups with nations. I have been able to combine the more generalized knowledge of globalization and the first hand experience of Martin Reiss to broaden my views of how it works in business today. Although every business will have to pave its own path, I feel that the fundamentals and basic knowledge is the most important factor. I feel that the article really stressed the act of staying true the mission statement and business standards of your business. I hope to use the knowledge I have gained from globalization to be a successful business person in the globalization business.

This theme builds on the objective in a way of stating actions to be taken by our government, schools, and citizens must take to be able to take a stand in the global business trade. It tells how through scholarship programs and emphasized education we can progress our society to being more efficient and effective in initiating worldwide business practices. This is an important angle to consider when analyzing the challenges and solutions of globalization.
