I firmly believe that popular music concerts can be sites of spiritual experiences, but I do not believe all popular music concerts are sites of religious experiences. Music has to do with the way a person is, their likes and tastes and it goes beyond one level. Now spirituality will be used to refer to a unique, personally meaningful experience (Shafranske 1984). This is the reason I believe that going to a concert can be considered as a spiritual experience, since the person going to the concert can connect to the music and absorb it live. From the concerts I have gone to, the music is something that I connected to on a personal level and for that reason they were meaningful. I remember going to a concert of Los Tigres del Norte which is one of the most popular bands in Mexico, so to see them live was more than just a regular experience. If I remember it after about 10 years, then it means that it connected with me in a deeper level. A place where I experience both religious and spiritual experience would be when I go to church on sunday mornings because the crowd sings along with the choir and it makes the experience meaningful and religious because the songs are about my beliefs.

When I went to a rave during last semester, I did not understand why the girl next to me was doing cocaine besides addiction. Now I understand that she was trying to deepen her experience and go into another level with the music. I do not think it was necessary to whip out a tube of cocaine, but if it helped her connect with the music better than I can not judge.

Mosh pits were something I had only seen in a video of TNT by ACDC which seemed strange to me because they were just pushing and shoving each other, but then again, this is in my gym playlist on Spotify. The mosh pits are a demonstration of spiritual experiences because they create a unique, meaningful experience for the people who get involved in the middle of them.

JMBLYA 2018 is where I am going to be at on May 4th and it will be my first sort of festival/big concert so I am looking forward to the spiritual experience since a lot of artist I like are going to be there like J.Cole, MIGOS, Playboi Carti among others. This popular music concert will serve as another example to creating a unique, personally meaningful experience.
