Beach cleanups should be more common as they are necessary to prevent plastics from entering the sea and breaking down into microplastics. Any kind of plastic is composed of oils, which attracts chemicals, that adhere to them. These can also get stuck in the digestive systems of animals, with the chemicals causing health problems. Additionally, it is easier to collect plastics when they are in they are intact and larger than when they are in the form of small pellets or microplastics. People should really consider using paper straws or metal bottles to prevent single-time plastic bottles.

When it comes to building a sustainable future, the principles of reuse, reduce, and recycle are key. By actively practicing these three Rs in our daily lives, we can make a significant impact on the health of our planet. Reusing items instead of constantly buying new ones helps to reduce waste and conserve resources. Reducing the amount of waste we produce by being mindful of our consumption habits is essential for a sustainable future. And recycling materials whenever possible helps to minimize the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. By taking action to implement these principles into our lives, we can work towards a more sustainable future for generations to come.

Climate anger is a growing sentiment among individuals who are frustrated by the lack of meaningful action to address the pressing issue of climate change. As temperatures continue to rise, extreme weather events become more frequent, and ecosystems are pushed to the brink of collapse, many people are feeling a sense of righteous indignation towards governments, corporations, and individuals who continue to prioritize short-term profits over the long-term health of the planet. This anger is fueled by a sense of urgency and a desire to see real change happen before it's too late. While anger can be a powerful motivator for change, it is important to channel it into constructive action and advocacy in order to make a meaningful impact on the fight against climate change.

It is a feeling of mourning for the loss of natural habitats, species, and ecosystems, as well as the devastating effects of extreme weather events and environmental degradation.

Climate grief can manifest in many ways, including feelings of anxiety, depression, anger, guilt, and hopelessness. It can be triggered by news reports of environmental destruction, witnessing the effects of climate change firsthand, or simply reflecting on the bleak future that lies ahead if urgent action is not taken.

Like any form of grief, climate grief can be a heavy burden to bear and can take a toll on mental health and well-being. It is important to acknowledge and validate these feelings, seek support from others who share similar concerns, and take action to address the root causes of climate change.

In dealing with climate grief, it is important to focus on finding ways to cope with these emotions, such as engaging in activism, connecting with nature, advocating for sustainable practices, and supporting policies that aim to mitigate the effects of climate change. A solution could be to resell: there are certain shops that allow people to resell worn (but not torn) clothing or even clothing reselllers never got to wear. These shops are a great example to exchanging or even donating (since they are sold at a much lower price) clothes that could have ended up at a landwaste.

I'm hopeful that there will be a greater drive for nuclear energy and greater investment in nuclear energy in the future. France produces 70% of their electricity needs from nuclear energy. Could France be an example for other countries? Could France share their expertise with EU members to grow nuclear energy? Nuclear solves a lot of the energy concerns about renewables e.g. reliability. Humans need reliable energy to grow their economies, to get out of poverty, to innovate, and to find sustainable solutions to the world's problems e.g. sustainable energy production and human prosperity. I don't understand why nuclear energy isn't the top priority for the future but I'm hopeful that breakthroughs in nuclear energy will help us move to limitless clean energy.

Since the species living under the water don't know anything about the plastics, it is very likely it will consume it. Then this can kill the animal.

so reducing the plastics will decrease land fill wastes, and more.

Instead of plastics for food, we can other alternatives whcih are sustainable for the environment.

Climate grief is a deeply complex and profound emotional response to the growing awareness of the climate crisis and its impacts on the planet and future generations. It encompasses feelings of sadness, despair, anxiety, anger, and helplessness. As individuals confront the reality of ecological destruction, loss of biodiversity, extreme weather events, and other consequences of climate change, they may experience a sense of mourning for the world as they once knew it, as well as for the potential futures that may never be realized. Climate grief can also be compounded by feelings of guilt or responsibility, particularly for those who are more privileged or have contributed less to environmental degradation. It's crucial for individuals experiencing climate grief to seek support, engage in collective action, and cultivate resilience in order to cope with and address these overwhelming emotions.

Kyra, Garden International School Bangkok

On social media they also share ways that we are able to help contribute to fighting climate change e.g preserving water, reuse, recycling, saving electricity etc...

In countries like Hong Kong the winters are getting noticably hotter, for reference in the winter of 2013 the lowest temperature was recorded on august 12 at 9.2 degrees but in 2024 the coldest temperature was recorded at 10 decgrees. eventhough it only got one degree warmer you can physically feel that it is getting hot. I used to live in Hong kong and I remebered that it was very very cold during the winters, but last year when I went to re visit Hong Kong I packed my bag with aroung 3 big puffy jackets, as I expected that the temperature will be as cold as before, but to my surprise it was actually really hot and I didn't even mange to use a single jacket as the temperature was not as cold as before. This is also happening in Thailand. Just only three years ago during the pandemic the temperatures during the winter would be as cold as 26 degrees we wouldn't have to open the aircon and we are able to open a window and not even get a single bit hot. But in 2023 despite it being in the winter the average temperature was 33 degrees and it was really hot that we will have to open the air con. The fact that the temperature is getting hotter and people would open the air con this is very worrying as air con will also contribute to climate change, this causes climate change to escalate even further than now.

Gracy,garden bangkok

climate crisis

the climate crisis is an ongoing issue of how irresponsible humans are, every 5 or 10 year we say net zero emisions in 5 years, but 5 years passed and nothing happens. as the world continues to not take much care of the planet, the climate will turn into a monster which will damage animals and more importantly humans. unstable weather conditions, rising sea levels, are examples of what is already happening. People want to shift and make the world more prosperous but if they do not consider the fact that climate change could be the result, then mass floods, hurricanes, tsunamis, extreme sun and heat exposure will damage both Earth and its inhabitants. Instead of launching rockets to Mars and wasting resources, people should use them to help save the Earth. people are already giving up hope and just forgetting about it, but a problem won't solve itself.

As years pass by, the climate crisis makes me feel as if the world will stop working soon, everyday i feel depressed when i see how much natural disasters and tragedies occur on the news.

Humans are the smartest beings on Earth, our critical thinking seperates us from animals, but are we that smart if we can not look after what was given to us, our home.

Many people feel the need to do something but their contributions are outnumbered by what has already been done. Therefore they go through fear and depression which lowers their self esteem that they couldn't help.

Throughout my 12 years on this Earth, I have seen how much this world has changed, in my home country, winters used to be freezing and usually -20 degrees and long but now they are short and warm, snow only falls on the highest peaks, it makes me feel sad that my home will not be the same as I know it sooner or later.

We must not let the issue rest, and continue to push for climate restoration by making even minor changes in our lifestyles which will affect the Earth enormously, e.g. stop buying unecessary products which contribute to the companies abusing Earth, even use less electricity and the world will save billions of watts of energy.

Overall, we must strive to take care of the Earth even if we don't see immediate actions, we must treat Earth as we would like Earth treat us.

Yousuf Eaton International School Malaysia

After learning about the profound impact that our actions have, we have thought of some changes we could implement in our school now.

Establish a sustainability council to discuss current issues in our community, raise awareness, and carry out campaigns to promote recycling.

To deal with issues of food wastes, we can create a compost bin, allow for proper separation of wastes, periodically amend menu to fit with student's tastes and portions, create a school garden for fruits and vegetables.

Reduce plastic and other harmful wastes or garbage by encouraging the use of reusable bags and utensils. Furthermore, we could adjust the content of our snack shop to reduce trash.

We hope to start changes inside our community then possibly extending our actions further to bring about a sustainable future.

To create impactful change, educating the next generation is crucial. All of us has the potential to reform our government and society.

In the dark, desperate despair of climate turmoil, it may be hard to wake up everyday and continue on. Some people choose to simply ignore the solution: it doesn't directly affect them now so they turn a blind eye, knowing at the back of their mind that crisis ensues. Others choose to embrace the chaos, fall into the trap of doomism, giving up hope for humanity. However, none of this is the right solution. Even if it is hard, we must have hope. In some time, optimism may be seen as naive but I believe it highlights our strength to have faith in ourselves and something greater.

I hope that all of us, our government through their geopolitical conflicts, our community despite our differences, and people through their hate, will all be guided by the same concern for sustainability to solve the climate crisis.

I hope that the generations which precedes me would consider the futures of their children, stop their selfish ways, their greed, their pessimism and fight for our environment.

I hope I would not have to see my fellow humans suffer through extreme natural disasters, droughts, floods, fires, losing their homes from the sea level rise and be granted their right to live fruitful lives.

I hope we are not too late to make change...

The enormous transformation of our ecological systems and environment can have deep impacts or reactions on her emotions. The loss brings grief, for what our contributed actions have led too.

It is quite like losing a family member or friend, the loss makes it hurt to remember anything about them, see something associated with them, etc. If we look at this ‘lost person’ as out earth, the place that nurtures us for our entire life; to watch it dying and knowing you can’t do anything about it is true grief. That is why the term Climate Grief is not just pain for a loss, it is the pain of feeling helpless during the loss.

Climate Grief can be triggered by a Grief disorder as well. For people who have faced a severe loss, Climate Grief is very likely to occur once the person has witnessed or watched something that brings out this issue.

But we can change that. We can contribute to Organisations, donations, clean up parties, fundraisers, anything at all to stop mother earth’s state from worsening. This is possibly the best solution for Climate Grief. There are many organisations that help turn Climate Grief into Climate Action.

Myesha, Garden Bangkok
