         <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>The&nbsp;Black&nbsp;Students&nbsp;Group&nbsp;is a safe and welcoming space for&nbsp;students&nbsp;of African, Caribbean and mixed heritage to reflect on their mental health, wellbeing, and student experience at the University of Nottingham.&nbsp;</strong></p><p><br></p><p>The group is led by two&nbsp;Black&nbsp;facilitators from the University Counselling Service, who are of African-Caribbean heritage experienced in working with individuals from diverse cultural social background and bring shared cultural experience and understanding to support students.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>Each session offers a chance to connect with like-minded peers, share and explore personal experiences, and develop meaningful coping strategies. The&nbsp;group&nbsp;aims to build a supportive community that extends beyond the sessions.</p><p><br></p><p>If you work with any students who may benefit from joining the group, kindly share this information with them. &nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Who can attend the group?</strong></p><p>The group is open to students who identify as Black or mixed race with African and/or Caribbean heritage and aims to provide support around mental health and wellbeing.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p><strong>What does the group discuss?</strong></p><p>Weekly themes may include:</p><ul><li><p>student life and culture</p></li><li><p>anxiety</p></li><li><p>depression</p></li><li><p>accessing support services</p></li><li><p>managing racial trauma</p></li><li><p>academic and cultural expectation</p></li><li><p>diaspora experiences</p></li><li><p>discrimination</p></li><li><p>healthy relationships</p></li><li><p>and any other topics that impact&nbsp;Black&nbsp;students.          <description><![CDATA[<p>'<strong>6&nbsp;weekly&nbsp;sessions</strong> exploring the meaning of life and the Christian Faith in a relaxed, friendly and informal environment'</p><p><br></p><p>Each&nbsp;session&nbsp;will take place on a<strong> Thursday evening; free food</strong> and <strong>refreshments </strong>are available.&nbsp;Alpha&nbsp;UK have provided some amazing short films that help to answer questions and learn about The Christian Faith. Opportunities are given for discussion and everyone's views and contribution are respected, but it's okay just to listen, no one will be forced to speak or participate. Our different&nbsp;views, values or beliefs will be respected and will help to enrich the&nbsp;sessions.&nbsp;We will include some helpful activities to make sure everyone feels connected.</p><p><br></p><p>In a welcoming environment we hope that those who attend will make new friends and feel right at home and be able to be themselves.</p><p><br></p><p>This event is provided for all students of the University of Nottingham no matter what background we all come from.</p><p><br></p><p>Whilst it is best to start&nbsp;ALPHA&nbsp;with the intention of attending most&nbsp;sessions, it is flexible so if you can't make a&nbsp;session&nbsp;or two that's fine and if you want to book into certain&nbsp;sessions only that is available.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>The&nbsp;Sessions are as follows:</strong></p><p><strong>9th October - Is there more to life than this?</strong></p><ul><li><p><strong>16th&nbsp;October-</strong> Who is Jesus?</p></li><li><p><strong>23rd October-</strong> Why did Jesus die?</p></li><li><p><strong>30th October-</strong> How can I have faith?</p></li><li><p><strong>6th November-</strong> Why and how should I pray?</p></li><li><p><strong>13th November-</strong> Why and how should I read the Bible?</p></li></ul><p><br></p><p>It is important to note that&nbsp;Alpha&nbsp;is a discovery event about Christianity for all UoN Students. It is open to students of faith and none it is also a great opportunity for people of faith to refresh, develop and be supported.          <description><![CDATA[<p><strong>COURSE REPS</strong></p><p>Every course in the University has a Course Rep or groups of Reps who convey your feedback to the relevant staff and better your academic experience. They attend termly meetings called Student-Staff Forums (SSFs) (link) where they can discuss concerns and issues, or positive feedback on the way the course runs, or specific modules and lecturers. These meetings allow the student reps and staff to work collaboratively to enact positive change based on feedback from the students studying that course, to make it better for you and future students. </p><p><br></p><p><a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"><strong>ROLE PROFILE</strong></a></p><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><strong>SENIOR COURSE REPS</strong></p><p>Senior Course Reps are also students, and these are the people who Course Reps report to in the first instance. Senior Course Reps are appointed either through being elected by the students on the course, or interviewed by course staff.<br><br>They have a bigger job, and are responsible for coordinating the reps on their course, collating feedback from all reps, forming the agendas for SSFs, and often chairing these meetings.          <title>Volunteers Wanted for an MRI Study of Brown Fat Activation</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Researchers in Lifespan and Population Health are looking for volunteers <strong>aged 20 – 45 years</strong> to take part in a study exploring how <strong>brown fat</strong> is activated in response to a <strong>gentle cold stimulus</strong>.</p><p><br></p><p>We are looking for participants who are healthy but think they may be overweight (<strong>BMI of 25 – 35 </strong><a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="http://www.nhs.uk/bmi"><strong>www.nhs.uk/bmi</strong></a>).</p><p><br></p><p>Participation involves two study mornings comprised of <strong>two non-invasive MRI scans</strong>, one before and one after a short period of mild cooling using a commercially available cooling jacket.          <description><![CDATA[<p>We are delighted to be running the Peer Academic Skills Leader NAA again this year. The module is open to all Peer Mentors and Peer Guides across the university who would like to expand their skills. It has been designed to run alongside any other NAA that may also be available for them.</p><p><br></p><p>If this is of interest, please get in touch with the Module Convenor Gloria Lowe <strong>(</strong><a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="mailto:gloria.lowe@nottingham.ac.uk"><strong>gloria.lowe@nottingham.ac.uk</strong></a><strong>)</strong> for more information, and please circulate the details below and the attached slide to any students who are Peer Mentors or Peer Guides within your school via Moodle pages, announcements and/or training and meetings.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Student-facing information:</strong></p><p>To apply for this NAA module, you must already be a Peer Guide or Peer Mentor in your school.</p><p><br></p><p>This is a fantastic opportunity to expand your mentoring skills, including planning and facilitating study skills support and undertaking training in inclusive and reflective teaching practice. You will have the chance to specialise in Academic, Digital, or Information Skills, as well as develop professional competencies, including leadership and presentations.</p><p><br></p><p>This module focuses more on study skills than pastoral support, introducing you to study strategies and teaching you how to pass these on to fellow students.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>Core unit and sub-unit content will be delivered in <strong>November </strong>and <strong>December</strong>.
