Do you agree with the findings from Education Week's Report? Specifically, is technology failing to reach its full potential in K-12 schools? How do you think your school measures with high-speed Internet connectivity, passive vs active use, teacher PD?

Technology isn't failing, we are failing as an education system to equip our teachers with the knowledge and ability to use the technology to it's full potential. EHS is making a huge stride already for the 17-18 school year by simply offering training specific to the USE of technology, as opposed to just how to reach kids with it. We are teachers --- we thrive off reaching kids. It's what we are good at in most cases. However, if we don't understand how to access and use the bridge to that knowledge, it doesn't matter how many strategies we have in our back pocket.

Tech is not a panacea. Thoughtful implementation is paramount if we truly want to prepare our students for life. We need to resist the urge to use tech solely as an "engagement strategy" or a bright, shiny bauble. Kudos to Tim M. for saying much the same on a couple of occasions.

I agree technology is important in the classroom and it should be accessible and equitable; however, we also must realize technology is so rapid with change that we can't put "total emphasis" on it's ability to replace "good teaching." Great teachers make learning come alive in the classroom, not technology. It is simply a tool to assist the students.

I agree that we jumped into technological implementations as a nation without fully exploring how to integrate it into the classroom effectively. I personally like that we (EHS) have slowly joined this tech in schools revolution. We value deep learning, which can happen without technology but is enhanced by the use of technology in the right ways. We have lots to learn, but I believe that our culture for depth will help us to implement it well.

There are so many resources out there that there is always going to be a delay in our ability to adapt and implement that technology. We are obviously working towards better implementation but there is always going to be a learning process in how we implement it.

I think we are making a huge step going 1-1, but we must all be on the same boat to fully integrate this program. I hope to see more technology PD next summer so that we can get ideas how to use the ChromeBooks in our classrooms. I am very glad we got our's first to begin preparing for this change. As far as connectivity, I hope our system is equipped
to handle the influx of users in January.

Statistics in article show that schools are focusing on meeting the needs of students. Lower income schools are realizing that their students don't have 24/7 access to high speed internet so are trying to teach students in a way that they have access to learn. Technology is important but would be useless if students do not have access outside of the school day.

Yes, I agree with Education Week's Report and I think it is critical to ensure we have the proper training with any new technology that comes out to make sure it is engaging for students and effective for their learning. As educators, we need to ensure what we do has value and will impact students in a positive manner.

Teacher PD is a great way to start...We should also offer additional classes so students can learn how to use certain aspects of technology.

The number of devices shipped to schools this year was astounding, especially considering that most schools are behind in technology instruction, usage.

It will be exciting to see how we adjust this year when students receive their devices. It will definitely open a whole new arena for issues, but I think it will, by and large, have a positive impact on our students and on our instruction.
