Was the first Europe treaty that agreed upon supernational power. On the 18th of April 1951 France Germany Italy Luxemburg Belgium and Holand came together to sign the treaty. They came together to organize the free movement of coal and steel, while freeing up the access to sources of production. Rober Schuman was the founder of the European coal and steel treaty. He believed in uniting the states of Europe.
The treaty sought out to help economic expansion in Europe while implementing, better employment along with standards of living. This was to be achieved through an open market free movement of products with no taxes was introduced.
The ECSC treaty was the precursor of the EU institutions and helped better international relations in Europe after the horror of WW2. This was proposed by French prime minster Rene Pleven in 1950.
This treaty would have created a European defense force.
The French feared a loss of national security and sovereignty, and this was not tolerated in Paris. Even with their doubts the renamed Pleven plan was signed and supported by France.
However, the treaty would fail to gain ratification in French parliament and never came to be.
As a result of this Germany was great admission into NATO.
